Chapter 1

As I walked into the dining hall I saw many groups of people talking. With the professor's seated at a table in front of the room. The first thing I noticed was a 6'1 tall, olive-skinned girl with a round face, square jaw and angled lips. She had light brown curly medium-length hair with the tips dip-dyed shades of cream. I could not make out their eye color. I also noticed a guy next to the girl was 5'8 tall, had a senna skin tone, a rectangle face, and round lips. He also had hip-length curly ice blonde hair with jet-black dyed tips. I also. saw a mythical creature tattoo on his left thigh. But it wasn't how they looked that got my attention. It was how they were arguing about which type of magic is better.

As I walked over I heard the boy say in a soft but angry voice "Zaleria you use old and new magic combined, that is confusing." and I heard Zaleria say in a calm voice ''Heath you can only practice your magic on a full or new moon, that is worse." To get their attention I did a light cough. "Oh, hello I am Zaleria Damon!" She said smiling."And I am Heath Willow." He said holding his hand out. "I am Starling Cubs," I said, shaking Heath's hand. "I noticed and heard you two arguing, so I came over." I said. "So what type of magic do you practice?" a 6 feet tall guy with short wavy jet-black hair asked. "Cosmic magic, what type of magic do you?" I said. "Black magic." the boy said, smirking. "Eclectic magic!" Zaleria said beaming. "And I practice moon magic." Heath said. "See that's boring, cosmic magic may be dangerous but it is still useful."Zaleria said, staring at Heath. "Ignoring that, who are you?" Heath asked." I'm Seth Riddle, and you are?" he said. "I am Heath, that's Starling and that is Zaleria." Heath said pointing at me and Zaleria."So, do you know anybody else that's in the room?" I asked as I looked around the room. " You see that 6'4 tall person over there." Zaleria said. "There are two, you have to be specific!" Seth said. "Chestnut skin tone, shoulder-length straight brown hair in a bun. With an angular face, sharp lips, and large hazel eyes!" Zaleria said. "And how do you know them?" Heath asked. "We know each other because of our parents!" a voice said behind us. We turned around to see Lei. "Okay, you see those girls, the one with wavy short black hair and curly hip-length jet black hair?" Heath asked. "Yea." We replied. "The taller one is 5 '9 that's Iris Grimm and the short one is 5' 6 that Wren Grimm." Heath said smiling. "Are they twins?" I asked. "They're fraternal twins, Wren is the older twin." Heath said looking at Wren and Iris."I know Luna Jackson." I said. "What does she look like?" Seth asked. "5'0 tall, pale ivory skin and full lips. With an angular face and wide blue-grey eyes-" I said before I got cut off. "And knee-length wavy platinum blonde hair." A light calming voice said. "Hi, Luna!" I said. "Hello Starling," Luna said looking at me. "And who might you all be?" Luna said, looking at everybody else. "Lei Zhenya, Zaleria Damon, Seth Riddle, and Heath Willow." I said, pointing at everybody. "Hello I am Luna," Luna said, shaking their hands. "Also we are about to be put into our houses!" she said looking at everyone. "How do we even get put into them?" Lei asked. "We take a test, it's like a personality test. It somehow helps the teachers figure out which house the students are in." Luna said. "I'm going to guess we are taking the test here." Heath said. "Yep and the teachers are here to see how we interact with each other, or how we act." Luna said, leaning on me. "Okay, that's easy to understand." Zaleria said, looking over at us. "A personality test sounds like the dumbest thing. Like I understand seeing how we act but a personality test seems useless." Seth said, looking around the room. "Well, we get sorted based on what traits we have that are traits/values of a house here." Luna said, looking into Seth's round black eyes. "Can you guys be quiet now, a teacher's about to talk." I said looking at everybody.
