What does one say in a situation where one of your favourite authors has just told you that they ship you with a boy who is not even really your friend?
You don't know?
You have no idea?
Yeah, well, neither do I.
So instead I just sit here, awkwardly and uncomfortably sitting next to an apparently attractive boy with who I have just been shipped with: Brayden-shucking-Snow.
The odds are certainly not in my favour today.
I'm grateful when someone from the crowd yells, "Next question!" I can feel Brayden sigh in relief as well.
The tension between us is released. I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding, leaning back into my chair and resting my arms on the armrests.
Being in the front row, I barely hear Rainbow mutter, "You deserve to have a Nick in your life," to the person who yelled before moving on to the next question.

"I can't believe she likes pumpkin pie over apple pie!" I stress.
When we finally leave and get back into Brayden's car to drive back to our dorms, the sky is a dark grey. The moon peeks out from behind a cloud like Prim's duck tail on Reaping Day.
"Actually, I agree very much with her. Pumpkin pie is the best."
Rainbow Rowell did end up reading my question about pie, and when she answered 'yes,' I blurted, "Pumpkin or apple?"
Needless to say, Brayden and I have been having a heated discussion over her choice of pie.
The car ride home is filled with talking: About Rainbow's answers, on whether we agree or disagree, over his thoughts on my only friends.
"Your friends were cool," he states, his mouth in a straight line. "Katy and Dale are... Nice."
I burst out laughing. "Sure."
Twenty minutes pass by easily as we talk. The grey sky slowly darkens while he drives slowly along the road.
As the conversation dies down, I turn on the radio, too lazy to plug in my phone. Songs I don't know infiltrate the car and I stare out the window as the scenery slowly changes.
After Brayden parks the car and we both get out, he asks me what my dorm number is.
"Twenty-Three," I answer, not hesitating (though I should be, why should I let someone is not really my friend know where I live?)
"Oh. I'm passing by there. I guess--let's just--I'll walk with you."
I chuckle at his awkwardness. "Okay."
"Okay."
"Stop flirting with me. Are you actually agreeing with Katy and Dale?"
He elbows me in the shoulder in reply, making me almost hit the main entrance door. I shove him a little and laugh, then continue to walk next to him.
I abruptly halt when we reach my door, confusing Brayden for a second. "See you tomorrow at lunch, I guess," I say, not really knowing what I should say.
"Really? No, 'thanks, I had fun today'?"
I shrug. "I thought people only said that at the end of dates."
