Pippy couldn't breathe. She couldn't stand either, which she figured out when she tried to and ended up collapsing. Her stupid feet had fallen asleep.
All she knew was that there was a lot of panicking around her. And that something had just exploded.
Light streamed into the room, and the fog drifted away slowly. Blair and the others were all heaving for breath. Jey was gone.
"I," Huro paused for a breath, "Have never been so happy to almost get blown up ever."
Shadow Army soldiers flooded the street. Tulii unsheathed her daggers, as did Blair with her sword. Ash was gripping Aeron the hairbrush tightly, and Huro was fingering the sword from the day before. Pippy was still lying on the floor.
"C'mon, we have some Shadow Army butt to kick." Alex said.
"My feet fell asleep."
Huro dragged a hand down his face. "You've gotta be kidding me, pipsqueak."
"My foot fell asleep too..." Ash laughed nervously from where she was standing like a flamingo.
Tulii, who had lifted her long hair into a ponytail, rolled her eyes. "Sparky, give Pip a horseback ride. Alex, help out your girlfriend. Blair and I are perfectly capable of defending you all."
Blair raised her eyebrows. "You haven't even seen me in battle yet."
"Well, if you have a sword like that," Tulii pointed her daggers at Blair's blade. "I'd hope you don't just carry it around for show." She turned to the others. "Ready?"
Huro grumbled something as Pippy climbed onto his back grinning. "Yep. Giddy-up, noble steed!" Huro looked like he wanted to buck her off into the middle of the chaotic streets.
Ash was leaning against Alex, who had an arm wrapped around her shoulders. The younger princess smirked at them and made kissing sounds, much to their horror.
"Let's do this." Blair said with a confident grin. She and Tulii charged into battle. Huro trotted after, with Pippy whooping nonsense.
There had to be at least fifty soldiers. Some were running around with swords or daggers, while others set off explosives. There were even a few using Shadow Magic.
Spotting the armed elves, a few swordsmen ran at them. Tulii and Blair smoothly knocked them unconscious, dodging the sharp points of their weapons gracefully. It was almost like they were dancing.
"Wow, your girlfriend's pretty cool, huh Sparkles?" Pippy smirked, obviously not concerned about Huro dropping her right there and then.
Huro stumbled. "First, I'm not with Tulii. Second, don't call me Sparkles."
"Yeah, yeah it's Sparky. The nickname thing is still adorable."
"I will literally drop you."
"I seriously doubt it."
An explosion that knocked Huro off his feet stopped their bickering. The pair stumbled into Alex and Ash, and the four of them landed at the base of a barrel. Blair and Tulii were so focused on fighting, they didn't notice. Five Shadow soldiers towered over them, weapons- or hands, in case of the mage- risen.
Pippy scrambled back, knocking into the base of the barrel. A splash of water fell on her head.
"I-I'm not afraid to use this!" Ash yelled, spinning Aeron the hairbrush in her hand.
"And we're not afraid to use these, princess." One of the swordsman snarled, gripping the hilt of his sword tighter.
"She wants them alive," The mage muttered. "Don't go in over your head."
Alex tried to look bored. "You sure are wasting a lot of time."
"Wh-" A wave of water splashed over all of them, and the earth rumbled, knocking soldiers and panicked civilians off of their feet. There were cries of retreat as the two elements went wild. By the time the ground had stopped shaking and the water lowered to spotty puddles, only a few Shadow soldiers remained.
Everyone was dripping wet, but the townspeople were smiling with relief. Ash grabbed Alex and her sister and pulled them into a hug, despite the fact they were soaked. "You did it! You controlled them!"
Pippy was beaming. "That was so cool!"
Tulii and Blair joined them, smiling as they sheathed their weapons. "Man, I was doing so awesome battling, I missed out on a chance to do cool element stuff!" Tulii joked.
"Hey, Ash and I didn't get to ours."
"I dunno Sparky, there was some shocky stuff-"
Blair broke in. "You guys... are Keepers!"
Ash grinned, crossing her arms over her chest. "In the flesh."
"This is amazing! Should I, like, bow or something?"
Alex chuckled. "You're fine."
"Presents would be cool thou-"
Ash elbowed her sister and glared. "Don't listen to her, Blair."
But Blair was already running into the remains of Jey's Maps, Stories, and other Merchandise. A minute later she returned with a roll of paper.
"It's a map." She explained, unrolling it. "It has everywhere in the land- even Gisae Falls. Most people think of it as a prop for children's games, but it could be of real value to you."
Alex took the map, eyes shining. "We could find the falls and learn how to control the elements..."
"Indeed. I hope it will help."
Tulii grinned at her fellow elf. "Thank you, Blair. May our paths cross again!"
