The crew make it to the early Cretaceous in prehistoric China. It was quite a more hostile world than they originally thought. Bubbling tar pits, fog covering the place, steam rising out of the cracks in the ground
Steven: maybe we should get going quickly
Nigel: my thoughts exactly. Up on to high ground, theirs a forest there. A good place for microraptors as well. Let's get the equipment and go
The team head for said forest quickly
Nigel: this is a really worrying situation. The perils of a volcanic area aren't just explosions and molten lava, an active volcano like that is gonna be seeping gas all of the time. Carbon dioxide, it's invisible, you can't smell it, it's heavier than air so it gathers in a sort of invisible carpet, but it's deadly. So the best thing is for us to get to higher ground
Them suddenly without warning, the ground shook below them surprising everyone
Nigel: everyone okay?
Connie: just a little scare
Nigel: don't worry, it was just a tremor. We really gotta keep an eye on that volcano
As he says that, he gets out his binoculars and looks at the volcano
Nigel: let's go. We can't hang around here. Fast as you can, let's move
They all do so as they cross the deadly plains with bubbling tar pits around them.! The group make it to higher ground on the edge of the forest. Away from the volcano. But is it a case of out of the frying pan, and into the fire? The gang make it into the thick undergrowth. Nigel came to find a microraptor, but he has no idea what other creatures lurk in the forest. He look around to find nothing, just stranger animal noises in the thick undergrowth. They make it to a freshwater lake, which seemed like a good place to make camp. They'd eat up their tents as they see their first signs of prehistoric park
Nigel: quickly! Over here! Look at these!
They look to see huge pterosaurs spring through the sky. Not the four winged dinosaurs, but it was better than nothing
Nigel: this is an astonishing group of back boned animals. Only 3 have the ability to do powered flight. These, the birds, and bats. Bats haven't evolved yet, these pterosaurs, wow
Connie: they look like Eosipterus, one of the only pterosaurs that live here in China
Steven: could be good neighbors for the nyctosaurus back in prehistoric park
Nigel: that sounds magnificent you two
They watch as they skim the water fishing and watch how they soar through the air like graceful swans
Steven: we'll see if we can wrangle up these Eosipterus for the park
Nigel: capital idea
But as Nigel returns to camp while Steven and Connie turn their attention to the Eosipterus, he's in for a nasty shock. The camp has been torn into with most of the food taken
