Never Late

Chloe woke alone in Lucifer's bed.  Trixie had asked to stay at Dan's parents that weekend and they had been able to spend some time alone but he was often concentrating on his new position.  She didn't really ask him many questions but answered his questions when he asked for advice.  She smiled thinking about some of the silly ones and then suddenly felt a nasty wave of nausea and ran to the bathroom.  When she finished brushing her teeth she wondered why she had been sick the past several days and then remembered something else and rushed to her phone opening her calendar.

I'm never late.

Oh. My. God.

"You called?" Lucifer said as he flew on the balcony tucking his wings back in.

Chloe looked at the love of her life and realized he didn't look worried.  He looked peaceful and all knowing.

"You already know."

Lucifer smiled, "Yes."

"And you didn't tell me?"

Lucifer walked over to sit with Chloe on the bed.    "I tried to tell you and you asked me not to."

"Wait, this has something to do with me dying, doesn't it?"

Lucifer's eyes clouded over whenever her death was mentioned but he nodded.

Chloe just looked down with her mouth open and eyes wide in thought.  "I was stabbed with the tree of lif..."

Lucifer met her gaze and gave her a slight, but sad smile.

"But it took my life, Lucifer?  Are you telling me that it brought life and what does that even mean?"

"You were already pregnant, Chloe," Lucifer said with tears welling in his eyes.  "Michael would have taken everything from me.

"The tree of life is about life and living but it could not save you AND the pregnancy.  Lilith's ring saved you and saved everything for us."

"But how?  How am I pregnant?"  Chloe asked shaking her head.  "You didn't los...

"I am a gift from God."

"Yes, you are," Lucifer said while sitting down with her.  "Dad, gave me something that I never even knew I wanted.  A gift that keeps giving.

"And now it is magnified."

"What?"  Chloe turned to him and saw something in his eyes.  "Is something wrong?  Please don't tell me something is wrong, Lucifer."

"Nothing is wrong, Chloe," Lucifer said as he took her face in his hands and smiling.  "There is just a little more to the story.

"The tree of life saved both of our babies, Detective.  We are having twins."

Chloe stared at the floor with her mouth open in shock.  "Twins?  Twins!

"I mean, how does this even work?  You are God and I am, well not even sure what this ring means, and we are having twins?

"Twins!"

Lucifer was watching the panic and anxiety go across her face as she processed everything.

"You know what we are having, don't you?  Don't tell me.

"Okay tell me."

Lucifer laughed, "Are you sure you want to know?"

"No.  Yes.  Just tell me."

"We are having boys.  They are identical."

"Identical boys.  Wow.

"Wait, you aren't panicking?  You would have totally run away before and you've known for awhile."

Lucifer kissed her forehead and went over to the bar to get a glass of whiskey.  "It is hard to panic when I know everything.  Weird feeling."

"You know what we name them, what they look like, what they do when they grow up...you know everything."

"Yes.

"Detective, our lives have changed in the last several months starting when we decided to make love and now you carrying my children.   I am trying to wrap my head around things, too, but I think having more time helped.  You missed my panic moments."

Lucifer crawled into the bed and pulled her to his chest.  "Our boys will be loved every day, Chloe.  Trixie will love them and will be the best big sister. "

"Are they like Charlie, Lucifer?"

"Not quite," Lucifer said smiling.  "They are wonderfully made and that is all I am going to tell you.  You need some mystery in your life."

"Yeah like that is ever happening again," Chloe said laughing.  "Which is really good because I hate surprises."

"I KNOW you do," Lucifer said giving her his all knowing look with a slight glow around himself and she could swear she heard harps.

Chloe rolled her eyes and shook her head.  "You are insufferable!"

She pushed her hands into his chest and mounted him with his hands on either side of his waist.  Chloe kissed him passionately before sitting upright and slowly unbuttoning his shirt that she had put on.

"Umm, Detective, I like your thought process," he said as he took a nipple in his mouth causing her to moan while his hands roamed up and down her back.

"Do you?" Chloe asked as she stared hungrily into his eyes sending a thought that no one else could hear.  Lucifer responded with a groan and grabbing her hips to pull her as close as possible and then he stopped and smiled at her.

He stood up easily carrying her toward the bathroom.

"Oh where are we going, Lucifer?"  Chloe said as she was kissing his neck.  And then she felt that horrible feeling right as he sat her on her feet in front of the toilet.  Lucifer held his love's hair back and rubbed her back as she vomited again.

Chloe looking miserable stumbled to the sink to brush her teeth again.

"Was it this bad with Trixie?"

Chloe shook her head no.

Lucifer looked concerned that she was suffering through so much already with the pregnancy of their children.

"Lucifer, it is common for women to have morning sickness and each pregnancy is different.  Don't worry.  I can handle a little throwing up although it was poor timing.

"Soooo, if I am done..."

He flashed his devil eyes and grabbed her carrying her back to bed to finish what they started but unfortunately, something happened and he was feeling prayers all at once on an issue and his eyes clouded with concentration.  "I have to go."

"Where, Lucifer?  What has happened?"

He just shook his head while deploying his wings.  And off he went.  That was happening more and more but Chloe knew what she signed up for and smiled thinking about her handsome angel.  I love you, Lucifer.

She really didn't have to check her phone when it alerted her to a text message but she did anyway.

"I love you, too, Detective."
