Professor Finwe stood up from his chair and walked over to the figure which his familiar had knocked over. The figure was struggling to get free and in their hand, there was something that resembled a dagger. Someone had tried to kill him!
He pried the weapon out of the assailant's hand and walked around to look at their covered face. But as soon as the wolf moved even slightly, the figure pushed the wolf off and fled. Professor Finwe ran after them but lost track of them in the darkness. He turned around and walked back to his office, his sleep disappearing into the darkness like the person.
He closed his office door and walked over to his desk where the weapon lay. It was a six inch long blade having a handle encrusted with shiny stones. He took the dagger and put it into a solution that he always had handy to check any signs of poison. He waited while the colour of the solution changed from a light green to a violent purple, showing the signs of a dangerous poison that could have killed him in seconds.
He held his head in his hands after putting the dagger into the drawer. He stayed like that for a moment till sleep clouded his thinking and soon a soft snoring could be heard besides the alert growling of his familiar.
A shaft of sunlight fell across the room and into Lilith's eyes, causing her to stir. She stirred a little too much and fell off the armchair with a little "Oof" onto the floor. She rolled over and sat up, resting her back at the foot of the armchair and rubbed her eyes. She had fallen asleep last night in front of the fire in the common room. She walked up to her dorm and opened the door.
Melea was sleeping with her drapes tightly shut. She had possibly been tossing and turning in her sleep, and only had gotten sleep a few hours ago. Lilith walked over to her side of the room. Laurina was curled up in her blanket, blissfully unaware of the thoughts plaguing her owner's mind.
Lilith took a quick shower and changed into a fresh set of robes. Time seemed to have flown over the past week, and it was almost time for the Crystal Ball. Just two more days were left and Professor Treble and Professor Capriole had taken every single minute of their free time to remind them of everything.
She was walking out of the dorm when she heard Melea mumble an incoherent "Good Morning." Lilith nodded at her as she mumbled something else and stepped into the shower sleepily. Laurina shook the blanket off herself and flew to Lilith's shoulder and gave a nudge with her scales, making Lilith smile.
Lilith walked down back to the common room only to see Nova prowling around and Eden sitting with one leg above another knee. Nova leaped up on his lap as he saw Lilith walking in making Eden look up. "Good morning, did you sleep last night?" He asked.
"Yes, but is happens so that I had slept in the common room." She said with a sigh. "However, I do not feel cramped-" Her speech was interrupted when someone opened the door of the common room. It was Professor Finwe.
"Good morning Professor....you are up rather early...." Lilith trailed off. Professor Finwe merely shook his head and sighed.
"Come out here, you all are free today I suppose? Because I have something important to say." He said. Lilith and Eden gave a nod just as Aiden and Melea came down. They followed the professor out and they walked down to breakfast with him.
"Someone tried to kill me last night." He started making all of the freeze in shock. "I do not know who it was, but I have this...." He said pulling out the dagger from the pocket of his long robe. Aiden's eyes widened in shock.
"That dagger, I know it...." He said taking the blade. "It is from the royal craftsman's own creation...."
"That could only mean it had been one of them...." Melea said glancing at the glimmering weapon.
