The hot, yet joyful sunlight sought permission from my window and entered my room. As it bought the summer vibes in my chamber and encountered my eyes, I woke up. It took me some time to realize that vacations were about to start. How could I forget the day of my freedom? The day finally summer vacations were to begin. I waited long for that day. Finally, some days with naturalness and space from that prison with tall grey walls and the classrooms that reminded you of a horror house, just like the ones you see in the ghost films.
"Noah, breakfast is ready. Time to satisfy your hunger", shouted mom with the bright voice of hers, from the kitchen. She was to leave for grandma's house for a week, and guess who was to become the boss of the house? Oh, just the thought of all the parties and fun I was planning with Harry just made me feel like I was in heaven. I could literally see how my week was supposed to go without mom and the stress from school. Life was at its best at that time.
Since it was the last day of school, everybody had different plans for their evening. So did I and Harry. We planned a grill party in the deep, green, and frightening woods. At that time it didn't hear like something less than the best plan for an evening after a long and tiring school year.
As we got ready for the hike, it started getting dark and chilly. Maybe we should've taken that as a warning. An alarm that told us how the coolness of that night would freeze our souls. The weather is not something less unexpected than the paths one takes in life because of their fate. Harry and I grilled and ate as well as we enjoyed that dreadful wind of that night. He took out something he was hiding from me the whole way. One bottle, which would have been enough to change the route of one's destiny, was full of a liquid that brings the inner you, out. Sweat ran down from my red and boiling forehead, proof of how much I was stressed after seeing that. I have always kept a distance from such things for all the 17 years of my life.
"Look Noah, I brought us a drink. I found it in the garage, so I thought why not take it for my young pal", said Harry in a way one could literally understand that he was lying. Well, it was not the first time he was doing that. I knew he has tried a few times. However, I was unaware of his obsession with drinking. Just a few seconds later, he took out something else from his bag. It was as stressful and scary for me this time as it was 1 minute ago when Harry took out the bottle from his bag. This time it was some powder. The one that makes you feel like you are flying. The one that makes you feel powerful and full of joy. If only we knew what cruelty it was to bring with it.
