i placed my bags on the wooden porch with a huff, brushing the blonde whisps hair out of my face. i sighed, fixing my dress and looking down at the ground as i studied my shoes.
i looked back up and knocked on my brother's door, a smile present on my face. i looked around the porch as i waited for him.
there was a huge mansion, built like a castle in the corner of my eye. it was huge!
i was startled by the door opening and my brother stepping out, smiling bright but also looking like he was hurried.
"hi eleanor!" he exclaimed, reaching down and grabbing my bags.
"oh nicky, you don't have to grab my bags, i can get them." i smiled at him, ever the gentleman our father taught him to be.
"ahh, i see you've seen Gatsby's house over there." he pointed with his free hand.
he turned around and opened the door more, letting me inside first. waving to the man in the window.
i walked inside, i was surprised at the view of the house, it was a mess.
there were dishes upon dishes in the fridge. and the house looked like it hadn't been swept in at least a few weeks.
his voice awoke me out of my trance, noticing that i was eyeing his house, he cleared his throat awkwardly.
"i wasn't expecting you so soon," he chuckled as he looked at me, putting his hands on his hips walking over towards me.
"oh i'm sorry nicky, i didn't mean to come so early. it's just- the office let me go early, it is only lunchtime!" i smiled as i laughed sweetly, dusting off my dress, an anxious habit i've created since school.
"you always were full of surprises!" he joked as he hugged me, "it's good to see you though!" he exclaimed. he let go of me after a moment, noticing that i was looking around.
"oh! i must show you around the place! have you get comfortable with your new home, atleast for a little while." he exclaimed, still keeping his smile on his face.
a knock at the doorbell made us jolt out of our conversation. My brother sighed as he shook his head. "probably another telemarketer." he groaned into his hand as he wiped his mouth.
he answered the door with a smile, exclaiming happily, "Gatsby!" he laughed, taking his friend into a hug.
"old sport!" the mysterious man, named gatsby also exclaimed.
he was let inside after the two exchanged how they were doing.
i looked over at the man and smiled, easing my dress of its wrinkles once again.
Gatsby looked at me nervously with a smile, adjusting his black blazer. he held out his hand for me to shake, i took it, and he kissed my knuckles.
my face felt red as i smiled brightly, giggling a little.
my brother introduced me to the man, they both gave me a look, him giving me a look of admiration and adore, but the other man, Jay; i learned to know, gave me a look of adoration, and what i would come to find out.. attraction.
"i'm eleanor, but my friends call me El." i smiled towards him.
"i like that name," he smiled back, a charming smile he had. it was like his teeth were diamonds, bright and awe striking.
Nick cleared his throat, remembering that he was not wanted in the conversation.
Gatsby and i laughed awkwardly, smiling at him sympathetically, he redirected the conversation to another topic.
"well i must get going," after an hour, the blonde man had exclaimed. "i'm supposed to go into town about now. if you have nothing to do, would you care to join me?" he questioned.
his blue eyes sparkling in the light as he looked at me, a charming look on his face.
Nick spoke up as he shook his head, saying no.
"no no, i have work to attend to, as you can see here." he laughed at himself, waving his arm around as he showed his house.
Gatsby looked at me next, i nodded as i smiled. "yes!" i exclaimed happily, 'a little too happy, don't embarrass yourself.' my conscious spoke.
he chuckled, shaking his head. "well ok then! let's go!" he smiled as he took my hand, i blushed, smiling.
he opened the door and let me go first, shaking Nicks hand and telling him he'd have me home at a reasonable time.
i gave nick a kiss on the cheek and stepped down, Gatsby taking my arm and leading me to his cream Rolls Royce, opening the door for me.
"thank you," i spoke softly, my bottom half almost sliding into the seat like it was made for me.
he walked around the car, opening up his door too and slipping inside, driving away into the city.
