Birth of Our Third Baby
Went in to be induced at 730am at 39 weeks and 4 days. I had foolishly tried to start labor naturally and ultimately went into false labor three times.
One of them I had real contractions all night with no progress. All times I went into the hospital and told to walk for hours to try and get things going.Unfortunately, the contractions died out and I was left overly exhausted from walking six hours straight. This girl was really stubborn, not wanting to come out no matter what I tried (I mean I tried everything ! Lol 😂) I never wanted to be induced.
They had to wait for results to come back for what medicine they could give me for GBS. So they didn't start pitocin until around 12ish when they got the medicine.
Contractions started around 2pm, and weren't very strong and 5 -10mins apart.
They checked to see if baby was head down and she was. I got wireless baby monitors on my belly which was nice and a first for me lol. They upped the dose of pitocin a little bit and by this point, they were just annoying and I wanted to get things going.
I even asked,"Can we make it go faster?" And the midwife(Kassandra we'll call her) laughed,"You're the first mama to ask me that! Usually they want it to go slower!"
Around 430-5pm I was offered a birth ball so I could get outta bed. I just sat on it and lightly rolled and bounced for about ten minutes until I heard and felt a loud pop in my stomach. Literally like a small balloon popping lol.
I stopped and thought that was weird, but wasn't sure if that was my water or not. Sure enough, a few minutes go by and my water started gushing out all over the floor while I'm sitting on the exercise ball (lol!). I hit the call button.
"My water broke." I simply said, smiling to myself.
They rush in while I'm still sitting on the ball, cause if I stood up I would've slipped.
"We shoulda had you on the birthing ball sooner!" They laugh as they help me slowly up and back to sit on the bed.
"What do you wanna do now?" She asked me and I nodded chuckling, "I want an epidural."
"Alright, when a mama says it went fast for them last time their water broke, I'm gonna believe em."
They roll in the epidural equipment and my hubs had to leave the room since they don't allow them in there for it. Due to the men fainting at the sight of the needle—it's huge.
The main guy was older with white hair training a girl on how to administer the epidural. My first thought was ,"Oh boy, a trainee.."
It didn't seem to feel like it usually did the other two times but I decided not to say anything (gut feeling said big mistake). It also took roughly 40 minutes for it to take full effect (other times it kicked in right away, another indication something was off), but I still felt some contractions.
Unfortunately, my water breaking didn't seem to speed things up too much like I hoped—or maybe I was just being impatient. With my last one it progressed it to the point of pushing.
Around 7pm, the midwife who was assigned to me all day was getting off for the day and the new one came in.
I feel bad for her as things went to 100 right away.
All of a sudden, my contractions came back full force and I was in excruciating pain. My legs were numb and I couldn't feel them or really move like I wanted, but I could feel the labor pain.
Pushing the medicine button to give myself more pain relief wasn't working, it only seemed to make it worse. I was crying uncontrollably while my hubby tried to comfort me. I called in my nurse at that point and after telling her it was excruciating, she immediately left and came back right after with about six people rushing in the room.A lady got a glove filled with some ice and placed it on my legs,"Does that feel cold?" She asked.
"No, I can't feel it." I said.
She then placed it on my stomach,"Yup! that's cold. I can feel that." I tell her and she goes to look at my epidural.
"I'll be right back." She says.
She came back and installed more medicine,"They didn't give you a very high dosage of it, this should help and it's going to take another 20-30 minutes to kick in again."
"Thank you.."
It's roughly 8ish now and the medicine took effect, I could feel the contractions still but barely. My hubby went to go get something to eat real fast and I was left to wait.
I doubted I was close to being ten centimeters but the nurses came in to check me and was just quick. "Oh yeah, She's right there."
"Her head's right there?" I asked, not believing it.
Thank God.
"I gotta call my husband."
"Okay, were going to go get everyone, you call him."
I called him and told him it's time, and to hurry up and he said he was almost to the elevator. He said he knew it was going to happen as soon as he left lol.
When he was there, the midwife came in and decided to have me push. But I didn't even need to—I just had to sit up, so she told me to stop "pushing". 😂
When everyone was there, it took maybe two pushes and she came out crying right away with the cord around her neck three times. But she was perfect and born at 9:17pm weighing 7lbs 11oz :) Same weight as me when I was born.
