The air felt thin, and it was freezing outside. Every breath she breathed out released a small puff of smoke. Darkness covered the land like a blanket. Although it wasn’t snowing, it certainly felt cold enough.

Steps echoed down the deserted hallway, before a demon walked around the corner. His eyes widened at the sight of her, and he immediately bowed down.

“M-my Lady, do you require anything?” His voice shook, and his whole body trembled. He looked absolutely terrified of her, and did a bad job of hiding it.

She shook her head. "I will be in my room. Make sure I am not disturbed.” The male demon nodded, and hurriedly scurried away, his head still bowed down low. She watched as he disappeared from sight, before turning to her left.

She placed her hand on the wooden wall, and turned it counter clockwise, turning her wrist with remarkable flexibility, then pressed downwards firmly.

Glowing marks appeared on the wood, making a vaguely rectangular looking shape, before a section of the wall turned into a small door. A frown tugged at the corners of her lips before she forced it away.

As soon as she entered the room, the door slid shut and dematerialised behind her, leaving behind no trace at all. Nakime's power truly was useful.

The room was lit up with four lanterns on each corner of the room, the candles in them burning bright. A bed was tucked in the corner, along with a nightstand. There was a closet up against the right wall, and a few paintings took up the rest of the space. A maroon-coloured carpet lay on the floor. The place looked simple, but was furnished with the most expensive furniture.

She crossed the room and opened her closet door, and stepped inside. A few moments later, she re-emerged. Glancing at the mirror hung on the inside of the closet door, she inspected her reflection.

An expensive-looking black kimono wrapped around her body snugly, hugging at her figure. It seemed to be made out of a silky material, and was decorated with a cherry and flower embroidery pattern. Her black hair was bundled into a bun on the top of her head, and her lips were painted a bright shade of red.

A scowl appeared on her face. Disgusting. She looked exactly like him, that vulture. She would not be seen like this.

She waved her hand across the mirror, then once more, gazed upon herself. Her hair was now curled into wavy locks down her back, and her black kimono was replaced with a baby blue one. It had a pretty floral and bird design along the hem. The red lipstick was swapped out for a more natural shade of pale pink, and her eyelids were decorated with a light shade of grey.

The whole outfit made her look much younger than she was and she looked like a completely different person. It was perfect.

    Her next priority? Food.

It was fairly quiet in town this evening. Not many people were up and about, mostly due to the fact that there had been reported cases of people going missing in the area.

With her disguise on, she blended in perfectly with the others, which meant weaving in and out of the crowd wasn't a problem. She was a little unsure of her surroundings, but soon found her feet leading her towards a cake stand.

As she walked closer, the sweet aroma of berry pie caught her attention. She hadn't smelt that scent in a long, long time. She quickened her pace and approached the stand cautiously.

Right in the center of the stand was a huge berry pie, stuffed to the max with filling, a small whip of cream was placed on the top, and the crust looked firm and delicious. Had she been human, she would’ve drooled at the sight.

“You seem to have taken an interest in the pie, miss.” She raised her head and caught the eye of the stand owner. He was an elderly man, and had a kind smile on his face.

“Oh, pardon me.” She said, feigning surprise. “It looks delicious, you must be exceptionally adept at baking.”

The man shook his head. “It’s not my cooking, my daughter’s the one who loves the kitchen. She takes after her mother.” He paused for a moment. “She takes care of her brother at home.”

She smiled. “Your daughter seems like a lovely person. Here.” She reached into the pockets of her kimono and brought out a purse. “Will this be enough for the berry pie?”

The stall owner’s eyes widened as he looked at the amount of money that had just been placed on the table. “That’s more than enough.” He looked up at her and smiled once more. “Thank you very much, you kind soul.”

He quickly packaged up the pie in a small wooden box and handed it to her. “Feel free to come back again!”

She grabbed the box and smiled at the owner one last time, before turning and disappearing back into the crowd.

Three hours later and she still hadn’t had any success in finding food. Hunting and preying discreetly was tough work. Walking down a secluded alley, she decided to rest for a moment. While she was immersed in her thoughts, someone brushed right past her and knocked her arm, causing her to lose her grip on the box and drop it onto the ground.

An irritated frown crossed her features as she bent down to retrieve the box. Lifting the lid up slightly, she found the pie a little bent out of shape, but otherwise fine. She straightened and tucked the box under her arm, then turned to see who had bumped into her.

A blonde man grinned down at her as she glared at him. “My, my, who do we have here? You look rather pretty.” He said, placing a hand under her chin. “My apologies for bumping into you, I didn’t see you there.”

Absolutely furious, she held herself back and smiled back at him. “It’s alright sir.” She would most likely have let him live with a simple apology, but now he was pushing it. “In fact sir,” she leaned forwards towards him. “I know how you could repay me.” she winked suggestively.

“Oh? And what might that be?”

    SLASH

She eyed his headless corpse on the floor, a twisted smirk on her lips. Finding dinner wouldn't be a problem after all.
