"Master requests that you see him, my lady. Shall I escort you to his quarters?"
She had just arrived back at the fortress and was approached by one of the lowly demon servants who worked there. A vein pulsed in her temple at the thought of seeing him again, but she had no choice. It wasn't as if she could refuse him. Eventually, she looked down and realized that the demon was still knelt at her feet, practically radiating fear.
A sigh escaped her lips. "Very well. I'll go to my quarters and make myself presentable. You are dismissed." The demon got to his feet once more and bowed. "Of course, my lady." He then rushed off in the opposite direction, almost tripping over in his haste.
She sighed once more and headed back to her room. Sunrise was in two hours, what on earth could he want?
*****
Knock, knock.
Two small, almost inaudible knocks came from outside the door. "Come in." A male voice called.
Taking a deep breath, she steadied herself and pushed the door open, stepping into his room. After she had returned to her own room, she had changed out of her disguise and wore her usual clothes - a fancy looking white kimono with a short, stylish black haori over it. Her waist length hair was now back to its original demon colour; snow white which faded to soot black tips, and her eyes were now a deep shade of lavender.
She pressed her lips together before shutting the door and turning to face him.
He was stood upright, his back to her, with a table directly behind him. Few lanterns lit up the area and an unidentified candle scent instantly made her feel a little drowsy. She shook her head. Now was not the time to get tired, she had to be on guard at all times when near him.
She strode forward and knelt down on her knees without a word.
After a few moments, he spoke.
"I was beginning to wonder if you were disobeying orders. Be quicker next time I call you."
She gritted her teeth, but didn't say anything. She had to be mindful, even with her thoughts. Though she has developed some immunity to him, he could still access her mind if he tried hard enough.
"I have a mission for you." He finally said. Her eyes widened. A mission? He actually trusted her with a mission?
A low chuckle resounded throughout the room. "I am well aware of what you are thinking. And to answer your question, yes, I do trust you with this task. Rest assured, if you don't complete it, well..." He trailed off.
"...I will complete the mission, Master."
"Of course you will." He chuckled, and faced her. She was thankful that she was still kneeling down, her head facing the floor. She had no desire to look into those crimson red eyes again."The details are on a piece of parchment which is waiting in your room. You are dismissed."
*****
She hated this. She hated being bound to him, she hated that she had to follow his orders. She wasn't some toy for him to mess around with. She would overthrow him, someday. But first, she would need to get stronger.
Looking down at the rose-shaped pendant in her hand, she brushed a thumb against it, before placing it around her neck and tucked it under her kimono.
Knock knock.
"Come in." She called, standing up. The shimmering door materialized, and a demon servant stepped through.
He walked towards her and bowed deeply. She found that rather annoying, couldn't she talk to a single person in the fortress without any of them acting like she was superior to them?
Instead of speaking her mind, she listened as the male demon spoke. "Master wanted me to inform you that we will be holding a banquet with the Upper Moons before you leave for your mission. He wishes to formally introduce you to them."
She blinked, stunned. A banquet in her honour? With the Upper Ranked Demons, no less? What would they even serve? Closing her eyes, she let herself relax for a moment before speaking.
"Will the Lower Moons be there?"
"Master has not requested their presence, My Lady."
She sighed. "Very well. When is this banquet?"
The male demon gulped audibly before answering. "In a few hours, My Lady."
In a few hours... She turned her head and glanced at the parchment on her bed. She was only due to leave for her mission tomorrow evening.
"Thank you for informing me. You may leave."
The demon disappeared as a strum of the biwa was heard, and she shut her eyes, kneading her forehead exasperatedly. This was definitely going to be a waste of time.

A man was seated in an expensive looking room. He sat on the tatami mat, stirring his tea with his finger. It was stone cold. And he had no intention of drinking it.
Suddenly, a loud crash was heard from another room, and the scent of blood filled the air.
He shook his head, annoyed. How tiresome. Still, he had to keep up this family act, as much as he disliked it.
"Are you alright, darling?" He called, raising his voice a little.
There was some fumbling in the other room before his 'wife' answered. "I'm fine, Tsukihiko. I accidentally dropped a vase and cut my finger. I'll take care of it, don't worry."
He didn't reply, and instead rolled his eyes. As if he would worry over such a trivial being such as her.
He sighed as he stood up, walking over to a window. It was almost sunrise, meaning he would be trapped in the house until dusk. He'd only just made it back from the fortress in time, and had been held up by his meeting with her.
The beginnings of a smile began to form on his lips as he let his thoughts drift towards her. She was fascinating, he'd give her that. She did her best to defy him in every way, yet was falling right into his trap.
She was also extremely strong, her power and strength on a level of an Upper Rank's. That was why he had arranged the banquet with them, he was interested in how they would react towards her.
He pursed his lips. She was rebellious, but eventually he would have absolute control over her. He debated making her a member of the twelve kizuki, then looked out the window once more.
"I have high hopes for you, Hiromi."
And with that, he withdrew himself and shut the curtains firmly, shrouding the room in darkness.
