    Dong.

    Dong.

A few biwa strums were heard as the room spun around in different directions. Seven demons stood inside it, an unbothered expression on their faces.

Suddenly, the room came to a halt, and a suffocating silence ensued. The tension in the air increased until it was stretched thin like a pane of glass. And, just as suddenly, it was broken, as a blond demon spoke.

“My, my~ I wonder why Master called us all here for such an important occasion.” He murmured, tilting his head. The pinkette next to him grumbled and pushed him away.

"We'll find out soon enough, now be quiet."

Pattering footsteps were heard, and a lowly demon servant emerged from behind a corner. She stepped forward and bowed deeply.

"G-good evening everyone." She said, trembling slightly. "Welcome to the banquet. Please follow me as I lead you to your seats."

Then, she turned and hurriedly walked off, keeping her head down low. The demons behind her followed, most of them curious.

The servant led them to a large room, lit up by several chandeliers. A long table was set in the center, with silver dinnerware laid out before them. The chairs were padded with cushions, and a flower centerpiece of red spider lilies were placed in the center.

The uppermoons were shocked. Such fancy dinnerware was expensive, and it had been ages since any of them had eaten a meal at a table. The only question now was, what were they going to eat?

"Please take your seats. The banquet will begin shortly." The demon girl said, before hurriedly walking away.

The seven demons glanced at each other, before swiftly dividing up seats and taking their places.

"That's odd. There are two extra seats instead of one, do you think they set another one up by accident?" A girl with white and green hair exclaimed. The kanji 'Upper Rank Six' were etched into her eyes, and she carried herself with a smug air.

The pinkette from earlier replied, "No, I don't think so. These servants may be wimps, but I doubt they'd be so careless." He crossed his arms and shut his eyes, opening them to glance back down at the table. His eyes read Upper Rank Three.

"Ooh~ That must mean we have another demon joining us. I wonder who it is~" The blond demon leaned forwards and smiled maliciously. Upper Rank Two.

The tallest of them all scoffed and crossed his arms. "Cease this pointless discussion. We shall see for ourselves when whoever it is arrives." He seemed to hold most of the authority, because the others immediately quieted down.

She watched from afar as the demons below her bickered. Sat next to her was Nakime, who was also observing them. She shook her head and sighed - these were the Upper Ranks?

Pursing her lips and closing her eyes, she nodded at the biwa demon, who in return, teleported her into the room with a quick strum of her instrument.

All chatter instantly died down the second she appeared. In the clothing from earlier, she hadn't bothered to wear a fancy disguise.

Opening her eyes, she said nothing as she walked to her seat and promptly sat down next to an odd looking demon, who had black and lime green hair.

As she glanced into his eyes and saw the kanji Upper Rank Six again, she raised her eyebrows slightly. Two of them? They must be related in some way.

The silence stretched out for a few minutes, before the girl from earlier spoke up again. "So, who are you, and why are you attending an Upper Moon meeting?" She asked, leaning back in her seat and catching her eye.

"I was asked to attend, and I shall obey. You must be Upper Rank Six, judging from the kanji in your eyes."

She grinned. "That's right. I'm Daki, and this here-" she pointed at the other Upper Rank Six "-is my elder brother, Gyutaro." The demon referred to simply nodded his head in acknowledgement.

She looked around the room, glancing at the others. "And what about all of you?"

The blond demon smiled at her mischievously. "My name is Douma." He grinned, winking at her. He pointed at the pinkette, Upper Rank Three, and said, "This is my best friend, Akaza."

Scowling, Akaza elbowed him. "I am not your best friend. Do not associate me with anything to do with you."

Feigning shock, Douma placed a hand over his heart. "Akaza-dono, how could you say such a thing!" Akaza simply rolled his eyes and didn't reply.

Unfazed that he had ignored him, Douma turned back to her, and grinned at her once more. "So, what's your name then?"

She had been prepared for this question, yet still internally frowned. She didn't want to use her human name, it brought back unpleasant memories. The name he had decided to rename her would do for now.

"..call me Hiromi, if you must."

Just then, three demon servants rushed into the room, carrying fancy platters. One of them stood in front of the table and bowed deeply, before opening his mouth to speak. "Master has ordered us to start the banquet before he arrives. We apologize for the sudden change of plans."

She blinked, surprised by the servant's words. She had thought he would want to observe them as they interacted in person.

Still, with or without him, it was going to be a long night..
