"and who are you?" the woman at the front desk asked Luke. the paramedics wouldn't let him ride with Calum so he had to walk to the hospital.
"um, just a friend" he lied. "im the one who called the ambulance."
"unfortunately we can't let you in because you're not family, but if his family does not show up I will get back to you." she smiled at him.
he sighed and sat down on one of the rock-hard couches in the lobby. ten, twenty and thirty minutes went by and nobody had come to claim the boy.
"it seems that his family hasn't showed up, so you can go and visit him." the woman called over to Luke.
"thank you uhh..." he looked down at her name tag.
"...Joy!" he finished
she gave him directions and he bolted down the halls and turned corners and finally reached his destination. he took a deep breath and turned the handle on the door.
Calum laid in the bed with tubes going in and out of him. he looked paler than he did when Luke saw him earlier. his eyes were closed and he had an oxygen mask over his mouth to help him breathe.
a doctor came in and after clarifying who Luke was, explained Calum's condition.
"it seems your friend here hasn't eaten in a few days and passed out from exhaustion. we're pumping in nutrients in him now. I estimate he will wake up in about an hour."
so what did Luke do? he waited. after about forty five minutes, the boy shifted his position and his eyes fluttered open.
"w-what happened? where a-am I?" he spoke. Luke loved the way his voice sounded.
"uh, hi my name's Luke. I was walking down the street and I saw you fall and you passed out so I called an ambulance. I just wanted to see how you were doing." he explained.
Luke saw that it might have bothered the boy to have a complete stranger talking to you alone in a room.
"oh um the lady in the front just let me in because I guess your family didn't show up?" Luke tried to assure him, even though it came out more as a question.
it didn't help Calum at all though. he dropped his head in sorrow, but realized it would be embarrassing to cry in front of a stranger so he quickly picked it back up.
"u-um thanks for calling an ambulance for me, but I'm f-fine" Calum looked at his hands.
"um, okay I'm just glad you're better." Luke started to leave. he stopped in the doorway.
"I never actually got your name." he asked the patient.
"c-calum."
"Caaalluumm. has a nice ring to it"
sorry I couldn't help updating hehe
