It was the biggest storm of the decade, but that didn't stop Dennis Lachance from visiting his bride to be in the neighboring country. They were preparing for a wedding after all, one of the most important weddings either kingdom has ever witnessed. It was the first time in 100 years that a prince and a princess from two different countries were getting married. This would form a tight alliance between the two, something both kingdoms were desperately looking forward to. Most if not all the time royalty would marry someone of the same status that lived in the same country. It was easier, more traditional.

"I'm excited to go home." Denny smiled at his best friend from across the carriage. They were already on their way back to Castle Rock as Denny spoke. It wasn't that far of a journey to the neighboring country, but it still required a horse and carriage to efficiently travel.
"This is the first time I've traveled without my father and I think it went really good. Besides... well... this," Denny had to raise his voice due to the pouring rain outside.
"And I just want to thank you for-" A terrified scream erupted from the horse pulling the carriage in front of Denny's. Everything came to a halt. He exchanged puzzled glances with his friend before quickly poking his head out of his carriage.

"Is everything alright?" Dennis shouted to the coachman responsible for the distraught animal. Denny had to cup his hands around his eyes in order to shield his vision from the cascading rain. The coachman's arms were viciously tugging back on the horse's reins in an attempt to restrain the animal's outburst.

"Everything's fine, sir! She's just afraid of this old bridge. Happens every time." The man called back with a confident nod. Denny returned the gesture and ducked his head back inside his carriage.

"What was it?" His friend asked as Denny wiped his dripping hands off on his pants.

"Oh nothing. That bridge just scares the horses." Denny shrugged and glanced out the window as the line of carriages began to cross the bridge.
"This height would scare me too if I was out there." He commented.

"Mm. How are things with Elenor?" Denny's friend asked with a smile.

"Oh Elenor? She's the best. I'm happy I'm not just getting married to her in order for our kingdoms to align together. I genuinely like her." Denny smiled back. Then out of nowhere a huge, ear splitting crash followed by a bright light captured the sky. A lightning bolt, striking the center of the bridge followed by a loud snap.

Three months later

"Hey hey hey. How many times do I have to say this? Five feet away, pal. Don't make me use force." Teddy Duchamp crossed his arms clumsily over his chest as he threatened the drunk man in front of him who was getting a little to close.

"Teddy, it's fine. You don't have to be so.. weird." Gordie Lachance mumbled softly to him, although Teddy's over the top aggression did actually make him feel better.

After Denny's untimely death Gordie had locked himself inside of his bedroom and refused to come out for a week. Then after gaining enough courage to leave his room, he refused to go outside.
But today, for no real reason, Gordie had suddenly felt extremely claustrophobic inside his own home. Even though the castle he lived in had 30 rooms, everything felt suffocating. If he had to walk through the hallway that connected his bedroom to the staircase one more time he might have a heart attack. So, he wandered around his family's castle until he found Teddy, who was usually not far out of reach since he was Gordie's personal bodyguard, grabbed him and dragged him along his mini adventure through the downtown area of Castle Rock.

"I know I know, but it's my job. And it's the first time you've been out since... Denny's passing," Teddy explained as he adjusted his glasses. Gordie's eyebrows creased at the memory.
"But anyways. In order for me to climb the ranks I need to be overprotective. If your Dad finds out anything happens to you on my watch," Teddy snapped his fingers in front of Gordie's face.
"Bye bye! My future job will go to some random loser who isn't half as good as me. I told ya, one day I'm gonna be calling the shots around here. At least for our military and all that. It's been my dream since I was-"
