Every other month Gordie's mother would host a ball. She'd picked up this habit after Denny passed away, needing something to busy herself with.
Gordie strongly disliked these pointless celebrations his mother forced herself to put on. She'd invite the same boring royal-only crowd to talk about the same topics they discussed last time while drinking the same alcohol they did before.
She had planned these specialized dances before Denny's death, but they were never this frequent.
As the younger sibling all Gordie's been able to do ever since he was little was stand around and watch. In the past he'd observe Denny, who had the pleasure of doing whatever he wanted since he was the eldest, aimlessly wander around the ballroom and flirt with as many girls as possible, somehow messing his chance up with all of them. And afterwards for the next month Gordie would use that as ammo to tease his brother. That was when these events were fun. But now, even though Gordie had become an only child, the younger sibling terms still applied to him. His mother couldn't quite let those little things go. So all he was allowed to do was stand next to his mother and father's thrones and watch, which was what he was doing that very night. Eyeing the champagne glasses being passed around and trying to ignore the growing cramps in his legs. Gordie's mother had said it was rude of him to sit, but how could that make sense if his mother and father were sitting right next to him? They were allowed to relax simply because of their status and age. How did that make sense?
Gordie didn't know. He didn't care."Look Gordon, that's Elenor's mother." Gordie's mom told him and gave the woman a little wave with her white gloved hand.
"Mm." He was so tired he couldn't voice an actual response. Gordie's eyelids began to feel heavier and heavier, the noise in the room dulling, a warm sensation enveloping his relaxed body...
"Ah!" Gordie flinched awake when a loud crash erupted from behind him. His head snapped to the side to see if his parents had noticed the sound or the fact that he almost fell asleep. Nope. It seemed a conversation about Elenor's parents was too important for either of them to care.
"I-I'm gonna go use the bathroom." Gordie stumbled away from his parents and towards where the crash came from. He didn't get very far before something hard crunched under his shoes. Gordie lifted his foot up, looking down and seeing a shard of broken glass on the floor, surrounded by hundreds more.
"What?" Gordie followed the trail of shattered glass to a window. A broken window.
The boy stood staring at it in shock, wondering how in the world a window randomly broke by itself. Or did it break by itself? There certainly wasn't anyone else around who could've done it."What happened?" Gordie whispered to himself as he bent down to take a peek outside and see if anyone was nearby.
Two hands from behind the boy suddenly latched onto his shoulders and shook him, nearly pushing him out of the broken window, edging Gordie onto the brink of a panic attack.
"Hey what the f-" Gordie gasped in alarm and before he knew it he was yanked up against someone's chest with a hand clamped over his mouth.
"Relax. It's just me." Chris smirked and let go of him, or more like Gordie clawed his way out of Chris's hold like a wild animal.
"You stupid fucking asshole! Why'd you scare me?!" Gordie whisper-shouted at him, fists clenched tight at his sides.
"Woah calm down, princess. Are you allowed to say that word?" Chris laughed.
"Shut up, Chambers. Don't call me that." He scoffed, cheeks red.
"Was this you?" Gordie questioned sternly and motioned towards the shattered glass and window.
