"Chris!"
Chris woke up to a slap on the cheek and a nerve-wrecked Gordie beside him.
"We fell asleep!" The brunette was sitting up, eyes wide with panic as Chris joined him in a sleep-phased frenzy. The soothing rock of the carriage had ceased. Either the vehicle was stopped or the crate the boys had snuck onto had been unloaded. Lord knows where the hell they were now."It's fine, we're fine. We just need to sneak out of here and find somewhere else to hide." Chris reassured as he sat up. If they hadn't been found out yet then everything was okay. He just needed to figure out where exactly they ended up. Just as Chris was about to lift the corner of the tarp and peak outside to figure that out, Gordie frantically grabbed onto his hand.
"Don't!" Gordie peeped as he yanked Chris's wrist away and clasped it between his two unusually cold hands, holding it there just in case Chris pulled a fast one on him and peeked out when he wasn't looking.
"Why not? We need to see where we are, Gordie." The blonde shrugged nonchalantly. With one swipe of his free hand Chris could feel that his hair was a mess from his nap- or maybe full on sleep depending on how long he and Gordie had been out for. Gordie's hair didn't look much better, Chris thought to himself as he flattened the boy's disheveled bangs for him without thinking twice. It just came naturally to Chris to take care of him, even in the littlest ways.
"Chris," Gordie groaned, dragging out the vowel. He hadn't even seemed to acknowledge Chris's hand in his hair, probably immune to his casual physical affections after being exposed to it so much.
"Nobody can see me! Everyone knows who I am and if I don't blend in then you're going straight back to prison and I'll have to get married. And clearly," Gordie looked down at his noticeably expensive black clothing, shoulders draped in sparkly diamonds that rained down onto his shirt.
"I don't blend in."Chris knew better than to ask him to lose the jewels. He wanted to live a little longer.
"Well, how the hell are we supposed to go somewhere safe if I don't check where we are now?" He decided to say instead of suggesting that Gordie give up his beloved clothes.
"I don't know... I mean.." Gordie's stomach grumbled loudly. He was so hungry. Gordie had eaten everything he had brought with him, very much underestimating how long and straining this journey would end up being. Gordie hadn't really thought past locating and breaking Chris out of jail either, but in his defense, he had never really had to do something like this, especially all by himself due to his royalty.
"Ugh. You're right," The brunette scooted over to the corner Chris was about to uncover.
"But I'll need to hide myself. Ya know like a disguise... but it can't be too good or else I'll stand out even more. Like it has to be in the middle of a really good disguise and how I am now. You get what I'm saying, Chris?" Gordie's paranoid rambling had given Chris, who hadn't been listening, time to put together half of an idea.
"And I'm hungry." Gordie pouted and clutched his empty stomach."Relax, princess, you look good in everything. Including this." Chris lifted the tarp off the crate they were in, sunshine spilling in. Chris's tan arms flexed as he shook all the dirt off of the fabric, Gordie's eyes gravitating towards the muscle instead of paying attention to whatever he was explaining. Something about blending in? Gordie wasn't listening. His eyes trailed up to Chris's which had been switching between staring at Gordie's face as he spoke and making sure the tarp wasn't dirty. Chris's eyes looked insanely good right now. Well, they always did, but with the sun facing right at him, they looked extra blue and extra... dreamy. They usually had this weird intensity about them that made Chris look much older than he was, but right now they looked like the exotic oceanside painting Gordie had in his bedroom. Denny had gotten it for him on one of his trips.
Gordie seemed to have dissociated heavier than usual because he hadn't noticed Chris's small smile until now. His arms and eyes must've captured Gordie's attention if he was just now looking at his favorite part of Chris, his lips. Both corners were corked upwards, smirking as if he knew Gordie was checking him out. He didn't know of course, but even if he did Gordie wouldn't care, because Chris looked so good right now. What was happening to him? Five seconds ago Gordie was nearly pissing his pants over being caught and now he could care less about anything that wasn't Chris's face.
God Gordie had missed looking at Chris. But now wasn't the time to get into that deep dark wormhole of Chris Chambers in Gordie's brain. He had snapped out of that weird trance anyway when Chris was wrapping the tarp around his body like a mother wrapping a towel around her child after a bubble bath.
