"Yeah," I lied, my throat feeling dry.

"You should say something when you're not," he murmured gently. He then raised his brows with a chuckle that sounded like music to my ears. "And by the way, I don't think you're disgusting."

And there was that smile of his again. I was so taken aback that I turned my head around without a thank you. My stomach felt like it was in knots and for someone who didn't get flustered that often when it wasn't Jax, I was feeling nervous.

He stood behind me for he rest of he ride. I didn't know if it was because it was too bothersome for him to find somewhere else to stand, or if it was because he wanted to make sure that some old perv didn't start grinding against me like a wannabe Magic Mike. So he stood there, holding onto the metal handle above while shielding my body with his, making sure to keep a small gap between us (which I found surprising considering how little space there was to begin with), while I stared straight ahead; out the window, holding on to the walls for balance.

It was finally my stop and half the crowd got off, including the guy who saved me. I realised that he was probably a student at my university. But before I could thank him, a line full of people separated us. I wanted to call out his name but realised that I didn't know what it was. I frowned, watching him cross the road to join his friends, disappearing around the next block.

I took in a short breath.

Maybe some other time.

Someone suddenly put their arm around me. Lola greeted me with a wide grin, her shoulder-length brown hair neatly tucked behind her ear, revealing her many silver earrings around her ear lobe. She had a doll-like face, cute and small, with slightly plump lips that drooped when upset. Lola had a petite figure and I always thought that she was more beautiful than average. I probably would have had a crush on her if I was straight. Though, her looks contrasted with her boyish personality.

"What happened to your face?" she scowled, her smile disappearing in a flash as she leaned closer towards me. "You've got a cut on your lip and- Wait, is that a bruise?!"

"I bumped into a wall," I mumbled, pulling away.

"Did Jax do this to you?" she demanded, seeing past my lie. She started to pull up her sleeves, looking like she was ready to brawl. "Alright, where is this bitch? I'm going to throw some hands, no one hurts my baby Ji Hoon-"

I rolled my eyes, gluing her hands back to her sides. "No one's going to throw anything," I said firmly. "Just forget it, it doesn't hurt that much."

"But it still does," she pointed out, her arched brows furrowing.

"He bought me some ointment."

Lola put her hands on my shoulders and started shaking me back and forth.

"That doesn't make it okay!" she said loudly, catching the attention of some of the by passers. "He's abusive and is always finding ways to hurt you, stomping you under his foot like a you're some kind of cockroach until he crushes your soul so that he can burn it to ashes," my eyes narrowed at how dramatic she sounded. And did she just compare me to a cockroach? "And then right when you're about to break down and finally leave his sorry ass, he does one considerate thing. ONE THING!" she cried, throwing her hands in the air. "And you're crawling back towards him on your knees, basically kissing his feet like he's some kind of king."

She slapped her hands on both my cheeks with such force that my lips were now puckered like a puffer fish. "WAKE UP JI HOON, YOUR ROOMMATE IS A MANIPULATIVE PSYCHOTIC SADIST!"

The sad part was, I was already aware of that.

She then started to pull the skin above and below my eyes to widen them. "OPEN YOUR EYES DUDE," she cried. "AND I MEAN THAT IN THE LEAST RACIST WAY POSSIBLE!"

I pulled away from her grasp. "Speaking of toxic people, remind me who's the one that got cheated on last week?"

Lola gasped, her voice lowering to almost a growl. "Oh, you did not just go there."

"I think I just did."

She punched me in the gut and 'fwop, fwop, fwop' beat me up with her man-lady bag. I laughed and cried at the same time, but decided to apologise to calm her down. My body wasn't really in the best state to be getting beaten up right now.

"I guess we can both agree that we'll be single for a while," she sighed, blowing her strand hair away from her face. "You and I are the same buddy."

"Don't insult me like that."

Another punch and I was crouching, coughing while trying to gasp for air. I guess I kind of deserved that one.

"Screw these toxic hoes, lets go out for drinks Friday night. I need some alcohol in my system," she sighed, patting her hair down.

"I'm busy," I croaked.

"I'll pay."

I blinked. "What time?"

"You heartless bastard," she muttered, shaking her head as she helped me up. "I'll text you the details later. I'll ask my friends if they want to come too, let's cross our fingers that they bring a cute guy with them."

"You sure you want a cute guy seeing you drunk?" I asked, remembering how the last time she was drunk. She was tripping over nothing and started strip dancing to Ed Sheeran. Didn't think that was possible? Me neither. But Lola proved me wrong. "Your ugly crying might scare him off."

Her mouth widened and she slapped my arm. "I do not ugly cry!" she protested. I pulled out my phone and scrolled through my gallery, showing her all the pictures that I took when she was ugly crying. She almost beat me to a pulp and by the time we made it to our building, I felt like I had more bruises than when I first left the house.

Tough love, right?
