the doors pushed open, the loud thumps of boots catching y/n's attention. their eyes ran from the counter towards the door, noticing their childhood friend walking in.
the doors shut quickly behind him just as he made it the short distance to the bar, sitting sluggishly in the chair. he immediately groaned and stuffed his head in his hands.
"nice to see you too," y/n joked, drying off the last glass they had washed.
"no," he sighed, taking his head out as his arms fell to counter, his head looking up at y/n. "i just needed to run a few more stupid errands for tifa. or for the people, really."
"at least you got paid, right?" y/n tried comforting the male, setting the glass up in the open cabinet. "c'mon, they couldn't be that bad."
"a lady asked me to try and find her cat in some small place around midgar." cloud's eyebrows had fell, showing clear irritation in his face.
y/n smiled and leaned forward on the counter, meeting eyes with cloud. cloud leaned back only slightly just to avoid a shorter distance between their faces. "did you find it?"
"unfortunately," cloud sighed, rolling his eyes.
"well." y/n stood back up. "since you're here now, what would you like to drink?"
y/n waited patiently for his answer, their arms stretched out on the counter as their body was stood up straight. kind of the way tifa had, they must've accidently adopted some mannerisms from her.
cloud took the chance to quickly admire y/n's small features. he put on a slight thinking face to pretend he was deciding when he really just wanted to look at y/n.
he swallowed suddenly, looking away as he spoke, "..something hard."
y/n snorted childishly, causing cloud to look at them in confusion. tbey shook their head, waving him off as if to dismiss it while they moved to grab a glass and set it down on the counter.
he watched as they poured in the liquids, closing the bottle off and doing tricks before they poured the finished product inside the glass they had previously set out.
he was secretly impressed but he didn't show it. they slid the glass over to him across the counter, his hand out to quickly snatch it.
he picked it up and drank some slowly, setting the glass back down as he nodded at y/n. "thanks."
"no problem," y/n replied, grabbing another glass and fixing theirself the same drink.
they, instead, chugged theirs, basically slamming the glass down when they finished. they took a deep breath as if they lost it all, chuckling to theirself.
"you good?" he asked jokingly, lifting an eyebrow in what seemed to be concern. he took another sip.
"might just say damn it all tonight," y/n sighed tiredly, already pouring themselves several shots.
"woah, i don't think that's a good idea-" cloud suggested, his face growing more concerned as he watched.
"eh, it's fine." they looked at him and smiled innocently. "you'll take care of me, right?"
his face seemed to heat up by the comment. "i mean-yeah, but-"
"then i have nothing to worry about!" y/n cheered in response, taking another shot quickly.
"y/n, seriously. stop it," cloud stated, standing up as he crept over to a spot where he could reach them from the opposite side of the counter.
he took the remaining shots from them, y/n pouting dramatically. they suddenly perked up as if they had an idea.
