aerith traveled calmly through the slums, humming a light song when they noticed the same tune being hummed from another person.

aerith's head turned towards where it came from, spotting someone painting. she smiled, listening to the soft hums that left their mouth. it seemed to calm aerith.

y/n felt the hairs on the back of their neck stand up, which usually only happened when there was a sudden chill or if they felt someone was watching them. the air was pretty warm, so they decided to look around.

as expected, they met someone's eyes. aerith's eyes. aerith gave them the brightest smile they had ever seen with a little wave before she hopped over to them. y/n returned the smile, following aerith's eyes as she inspected y/n's painting.

"uh, hi," y/n spoke, watching aerith's eyes light up, and she giggled.

aerith stood back, clasping her hands together. "hi, i'm aerith! your art is beautiful!"

y/n instantly relaxed their shoulders in relief, nodding and staring at their own art with aerith. "thanks, i.. i try. i'm y/n."

"it's nice to meet you, y/n! are you by any chance new around here? i don't remember if i've seen you around the slums before." aerith met y/n's eyes again, y/n almost losing their breath instantly.

y/n coughed, needing to set down their supplies, trying to catch their breath again. aerith's eyes and eyebrows shot up in concern, her hand finding y/n's back to try and calm the coughing.

"oh, no, are you alright?" aerith asked worriedly, rubbing their back.

y/n nodded, sitting up and calming their breathing. "yeah, sorry–lost my breath for a second. i'm alright. i, uh, yeah, i'm new."

"oh, then how about we hang out and get to know each other?" she questioned, "i'd also love to see more of your art."

"really?" y/n asked, looking at their own art before back at aerith and nodding. "okay, we can hang out now. is that okay?"

"i'd love to!" aerith giggled, watching y/n cover their stuff up and place them behind an empty stand, perhaps to keep them safe there. maybe they ran an art stand, aerith would definitely love to buy some of the art.

"well, what can we do?" y/n sighed, dusting their hands off.

aerith tapped her chin in thought before perking up. "i have an idea! do you like flowers?"

y/n lifted an eyebrow. "flowers? yeah, i mean, they're pretty. not too much with them."

aerith reached for y/n's boldly, holding it carefully with both hands. aerith's hands were soft, thin, y/n liked the feeling of them. y/n's face heated up, their eyes shooting open in surprise.

"well, that's where you're wrong!" aerith said cheerily, already beginning to pull y/n along beside her. y/n held aerith's hand softly and properly. "they have secrets, you know. let's go see them at my house!"

"your house?" y/n asked, blinking rapidly. "why.. uh, your house?"

"my garden is filled with them. how do you think midgar began growing more flowers around, anyway?" aerith cheekily grinned at y/n, y/n realizing quickly. though they were new, they hadn't thought someone created the flower spread.

"you helped start a flower apocalypse?" y/n asked, letting a small chuckle out.

"well.. yeah. me and.. someone i knew." aerith smiled sadly, shaking her head. "anyways, let's go!"

aerith pulled y/n along like a child, trying to help y/n see every flower she had. y/n wasn't annoyed for once, instead they felt excited to see the flowers. they also loved how aerith's eyes would sparkle as she found another flower to explain the meaning behind.

lillium's, poppies, foxtails, and so much more. of course, aerith was a florist so it made sense, but it was still pretty cool to see so many new flowers that were uncommon.

"well, which do you like the most?" aerith asked sweetly, looking at y/n with the brightest and widest eyes.

"mm, not sure. what's your favorite?" y/n asked in return, a small smirk on their face.

"i'd have to say these," aerith responded, pointing at a certain group of flowers. "these are my babies."

"really? then those are my favorite too," y/n said with cheekiness. that line was good, right?

"smooth," aerith giggled, "but nice try. seriously, which do you like the most?"

"honestly aerith," y/n began, taking both of aerith's hands in theirs and smiling at her. "i love all of them. because everytime you made contact with a flower, your eyes lit up and you got so excited to talk about each of them. they clearly make you all happy, and that made me happy. therefore, i love all of the flowers."

aerith's mouth had created a mini 'o' shape, her beautiful green eyes making contact with y/n's. they were so pretty, y/n seriously adored them and aerith. and they had only just met. "y/n.."

aerith took a shot and leaned forward, grasping y/n in a tight hug. her arms around y/n's neck while theirs was around aerith's waist. aerith sighed in y/n's neck, "thank you so much."

y/n instantly became flustered, nodding slowly before placing their head comfortably in aerith's neck as well. "it's no problem."

aerith pulled their faces away but the two remained in a nice hold, aerith grinning at them. "so.. want to come inside?"

y/n chuckled. "sure, let's go."
