feminine leaning reader..? i tried to make it as gender neutral as possible though. basically, you're with aerith and cloud. //

leslie was always fond of y/n, always catching their glances at him, their quiet giggles as they passed by corneo's building, and the way they shared eye contact when leslie was exiting the place.

they would usually remain still for a few seconds, never wanting to leave their spots. but they would, the two sharing a flustered smile then passing each other by.

leslie was waiting in his usual place, standing with two of corneo's men. he never liked to put himself with them, since they were never really working for the same team. leslie was really only doing this for some kind of revenge, he just had to work up to it.

suddenly three people had entered, and though one was he had grown to like over the time that occasionally hung out with the girl beside them, the third was someone unfamiliar, a blond male.

leslie's eyebrows furrowed sadly but he managed to recatch his intimidating look, putting it back on. the three walked up to him, almost as if they were immediately going to pass through the main doors with the blond male in front of them.

leslie swiftly held up a hand, stopping them instantly. "not so fast, buddy. back it up. got no need for pretty boys here."

leslie noticed y/n's face falling, them letting out an irritated sigh and looking away from their friends and leslie.

"we're looking for someone," the blond told leslie.

"let me guess," leslie sighed, placing a hand on his hip. "first time in wall market?"

"yeah, so?" the blond replied, crossing his arms.

"so people can't just walk through the don's front door. especially men."

y/n's head snapped towards leslie, as if he just read their minds. they crossed their arms as well, their eyebrows falling, their look becoming annoyed.

leslie pretended not to notice, not to notice how he was already annoying the person he grew fond of just by doing his job. he'd help if he could. well.. maybe he could.

suddenly y/n's brunette female friend spoke up. "hm, how about me then? can i go inside?"

"maybe," leslie answered honestly, "but you're gonna wish you didn't."

"you know, leslie, they're kinda cute. homely, but cute," one of the men beside leslie had said, earning an offended look from both y/n and aerith.

leslie didn't believe him, both of them were attractive. to him, especially y/n. but it's not like he'd admit it.

"..excuse you?" they said, leslie shaking his head.

" "kinda cute," isn't gonna cut it."

y/n clasped their hands together and batted their eyelashes innocently. "come on.. can't you help us?"

leslie swallowed the sudden feeling in his throat, his eyes having to blink away from y/n back to their friend, his eyes meeting y/n's friend's again. "do you have any idea what you're getting yourself into?"

"y/n, aerith-" the blond spoke, getting cut off by the other "friend" of leslie's.

"seriously, les, they're not half bad! with a little work, i bet they'd clean up real nice!"

"cloud.. requesting permission to kill," y/n spoke with bitterness in their voice, leslie noticing their fists clenching beside them.

leslie let the names sink in his mind. cloud, y/n. y/n, the person he'd been admiring from afar for a while now, and cloud, the guy they were with instead. leslie didn't know about their relationship, but he'd be lying if he said he didn't even get jealous the slightest bit.

"denied," cloud sighed, looking back to leslie.

leslie remained quiet for a moment, placing both hands on his hip. his head fell while thinking before perking back up with an idea. "okay. if you're really sure you wanna join an audition, then you're gonna need to get official approval."

y/n's eyes shot up from leslie's words, a relieved smile finding their face. leslie almost a smile slip but caught it, clearing his throat. "and who can give us that?"

"the trio-the only ones in town who're considered authorities on coreno's particular tastes," leslie explained, "first, there's chocobo sam. and then there's madam m, over at the massage parlor. last but not least, there's the honeybee inn's andrea rhodea. they're an eccentric bunch, to put it mildly, and you should know they don't recommend just anyone stupid enough to come knocking."

"hm," y/n said, a smirk on their face. "duly noted. thanks for the info, we'll be back soon."

leslie watched as aerith and cloud left first, y/n staying a few steps back from the doors when they stopped and looked at leslie. they sent him a genuine smile and a wink before practically running away with their friends.

--

leslie had been sitting down on the steps against the main doors, his arms resting across his knees, his head resting atop his arms.

the other two of corneo's men were taking a small break, leaving leslie alone to take his as well, but instead he was waiting at the doors, no where to go.

the front doors reopened, making leslie's head snap up quickly. he wasn't expecting anyone for a while. his eyes instantly met y/n's.

his body stood up quicker than he could think, swallowing the anxiety that filled his throat. y/n had pushed open the doors as if they were lost like they weren't here earlier. y/n met leslie's eyes and smiled, holding their hands behind their back as they crept up to leslie.

"uh," leslie choked, "hello. what're you doing here? wasn't expecting you and your friends for a while."

"oh, i know! but here i am. alone," y/n replied, cheery yet a slight shakiness in their voice. "aerith is uh, getting ready. cloud is doing some sidework. merc, stuff, you know?"

leslie tried to not act bothered by the fact they were mentioning the guy they were with, i mean, they were having an actual conversation right now. so, he could deal with it if it meant talking more.

"right." leslie crossed his arms slowly, his eyes beginning to trail to the floor, to the cieling and everywhere but y/n's to avoid any awkward eye contact.

"right. but uh, i came here.. earlier.. for a reason," y/n spoke up, recatching leslie's attention. "maybe we can talk more, you know?"

"you actually want to talk to me?" leslie joked, y/n rolling their eyes in response. "i thought i had annoyed you already."

"oh, you do," y/n corrected him with a small laugh, "but i'm willing to put up with it some more."

leslie shared a laugh with them before nodding in agreement. "alright, me too."

"great." y/n handed leslie a small piece of paper, leslie taking it and finding a number on it. when he looked back, y/n had already skipped back to the door. "wait."

y/n turned back with their hand already pressed onto the door, an eyebrow lifted.

leslie took a deep breath before sending them a soft smile. "it's nice to actually meet you, y/n."

y/n's lips curved into a small grin. "you too, leslie."

and they were off.
