The air was tense, though Kayden let Johns do his own thing while she had aside. She needed to figure out how to tell him and fast. If she didn't, he would find out from Riddick. That was totally the opposite of what she wanted to happen. However, she didn't know how to tell him that his son had tried to kill her.
Kayden rubbed the back of her neck, watching everyone go back and forth. She tried not to listen to their conversation, but it wasn't hard as her mind was elsewhere.
"Kayden, do you want to come with me?" Dahl asked.
"Huh?"
Dahl gestured with her head and Kayden got up. It didn't really matter where they were going, but Dahl could see that she was elsewhere. She would've punched a few of Santana's guys by now if she had been on this world.
As the two walked out together, they walked towards the ship together. As they got far enough from the door and onto the ship, Kayden looked up at her as Dahl walked onboard.
"What's going on with you?" Dahl asked and Kayden shook her head.
She wasn't sure what to tell her or if she could even tell her for that matter. Johns needed to hear it from her and not someone else, especially not someone from his team. "Kayden?"
Kayden sighed, crossing her arms, loosely. "It's a long story," she murmured softly.
"We've got time."
Kayden crossed her arms. "As long as you don't tell Johns."
Dahl chuckled, "it's between us two. What's going on?"
"That planet... the one his son died on," Kayden began and shook her head. She was more afraid to talk about it because she knew what had happened. It was some serious shit that had actually happened. "William tired to kill me."
There was silence between the two of them and Dahl shook her head. No one had actually known what happened on that planet and it was just believed that Riddick had killed him. No one knew that Kayden had actually been on that planet with him. No one had ever questioned it and Kayden never brought up William, but she always looked rather cold when Johns had spoke of his son.
Though, as she remembered, the two were never friendly to begin with. "On that planet?"
Kayden nodded, "right... He died back there because he had tried to kill me. I haven't told Johns about it."
Dahl collected the power node and walked out of the ship to Kayden. The two started walking alongside and towards the door. "Why?"
"You know why, why would he believe me?" Kayden asked.
Dahl shook her head, "but you have no reason to lie at the same time."
"Maybe... I know I need to tell him before Riddick does.."
The two walked inside together and there was no silence between them as they both walked to opposite sides of the room. Kayden didn't say anything as she took a seat back near Johns. She wasn't going to get in the middle of this hunt, she didn't want anything to do with his hunt.
It was going to be a long day, but Kayden just needed to get the courage to tell him what really happened.

"You have been quiet since we've arrived," Johns looked at Kayden who still sat in the same chair as when they first arrived. "Did you and Dahl talk? Women talk, right?"
Kayden chuckled, softly. She rubbed the back of her neck and placed her hands together. "Yes, we talk and yes I talked to her. She's the only woman here and there are things I can't talk to you about."
Johns nodded, slowly. It had been a while since him and his first wife had William, Kayden had been his first real relationship since the two split. Though their relationship got serious fast, but he was happy to have her.
She had always been his voice of reason. "What did you two talk about?" He asked, looking back at the window where Santana was.
Kayden chuckled, standing up. She walked to his side and leaned against him, looking the same way he was. "That's private."
It was hard not to tell him everything that had actually happened, but she was managing somehow. It had been eating her alive since the day it happened. She wasn't trying to protect her own skin, but then again, she was. There was nothing Kayden could have done differently to save William, but he also got what he deserved.
There were things Johns didn't even know about his son, but she didn't want to be the person to tell him that. Someone was going to eventually, but she needed to get the courage to do it herself.
"Is it something like that?" Johns asked.
"No, but it's none of your business," Kayden laughed.
The two had been close ever since they got together. Kayden knew his job and she always tagged along. A lot of the time, she could help. Kayden had experience that she didn't talk about often, but she enjoyed helping on his jobs as long as she wasn't doing the killing.
She couldn't live with herself and sometimes that's what the job required.
The two stared out the window, "what're you thinking?" Johns asked.
Since they arrived, he never got her opinion on the situation. He was so focused on Santana and his band of thugs that he had practically forgotten about her.
Kayden shook her head, "I think that they're stupid, but you already know that. They are too careless, they think they can do everything. Riddick isn't some easy money, Johns."
Johns nodded, "I know, but I'm not in it for the money."
She sighed, "I know.. We've talked about this a few times already, but I don't think you're actually going to like what you get... The answers he tells you."
Johns shook his head, "maybe not, but I need answers, Kayden."
Answers to a question that she could answer and soon she would have to. Kayden sighed, crossing her arms over her chest. "I don't blame you, but I'm trying to look out for you."
Johns nodded, kissing her head before walking to the door and outside with Kayden behind him. "I know."
