Johns was worried, especially since Kayden was keeping everything to herself.
Talking to Dahl was something, but he still wanted her to be honest with him. While he was busy trying to find Riddick, part of him knew he was missing something with Kayden. While he could try to ask Dahl, Dahl would probably give him the same answer.
It was girl code or something like that. Whatever it was, he wouldn't over step and even if he tried, they would both shut him down. Everyone else on the team knew to steer clear and not interrupt if the two were having a private conversation.
While Kayden was hiding something from him, he also knew he wasn't making anything easier on her. He needed the answers to what happened to his son, but he knew he was putting his current relationship at risk.
"Is there something I need to be worried about?" Johns asked. He stared out the window, glancing at Dahl. It wasn't like she was going to tell him anything specific, but at least maybe if there was something he needed to be aware of, then she would?
Dahl looked at him, "I think you'd be better off talking to Kayden rather than me. You're getting married to her, probably better if you ask her."
Johns sighed, looking at his cup and then back up. Kayden stayed away from them mostly while they were working, but she would pop up every once and a while. "Maybe," Johns murmured.
He trusted Kayden and Dahl had a point. If they were going to be married, he needed to trust her. Part of that was him being able to talk to her about things like this. Johns sighed, taking a drink. "Is she sleeping?"
Dahl shrugged, "not sure. She hasn't talked to me since we talked this afternoon."
It wasn't like her to hide things bothering her. She would usually tell him exactly how she felt and no second later. Whatever was on her mind, she deemed it important enough that she needed to hide it.
Never had he needed to pry anything from her, but he didn't want to. Within do time, she would have to tell him.
"I'll talk to her later," Johns sighed, walking away from the window. He placed his cup down on the table, looking back towards the windows. Santana was hell bent on being the one to catch Riddick and put his... head in a box as he so soundly put it.
They all seemed so prepared that they would be able to take Riddick down, but the man was a murderer, they didn't seem to be using the daylight to their advantage. Instead, they were hunting at night rather then being on guard at night.
It was all such a joke.
Riddick was another monster, the light was their best bet. Until Santana asked for his help and admitted his defeat, Johns wouldn't lift a finger.
"Now might be a better idea, Boss." Dahl shot Johns a look that made him sigh.
Women knew each other, Dahl was probably right and he knew that. Johns sighed once more, "I hear you, Dahl." He walked away from her, leaving Santana to whatever the fuck he was trying to do. The man was as useless as it got.
How they got this far was beyond his comprehension.
Johns walked farther into the facility, looking at a cot that was in the far corner. Kayden sat by a window, staring out. She knew windows were dangerous, he remembered the first time she had actually realized that.
She had been so pissed at him for not warning her the first time, that there were monsters out there. Kayden quietly stared out, her body was there while her mind was non-existent. She was floating off somewhere, he could see it in her relaxed body structure and how she didn't even look towards him.
"Kayden," Johns said, though she didn't respond and there was no answer from her. She was definitely somewhere else now.
Johns sighed, walking closer to Kayden. He placed his hand on her shoulder, causing her to jump out of the bed.
"Johns," Kayden gasped out once she was fully sitting on the cot again.
"Sorry," Johns took a seat on the edge of the cot, "I didn't mean to scare you. I haven't seen much of you today after you and Dahl spoke... Is there something you need to tell me?"
If only he understood the half of what was going on in her head. Kayden gave a small smile, though she was trying to make him feel better. She didn't quite want to tell him just yet and she had no idea what to tell him better yet.
That was his son, Kayden wasn't entirely sure what he would do if she actually told him the truth. Would her engagement be called off, what about the love of her life?
Perhaps it was selfish, but she could only think of the outcome. What would truly happen if she told him?
"No, I just have some stuff on my mind, girl stuff." Kayden smiled, lightly. Was that what she was supposed to call it?
Girl stuff?
"You had a sudden change since this all happened, are you pregnant?" Johns asked.
Kayden chuckled. While she was happy he came to that conclusion instead of something worse, it still wasn't ideal. "Johns, I would prefer you and I talk about this later... maybe when we're off this rock... and I'm rather tired." She looked back to the window and then him. "Not to mention you have better things to be doing then talking about what's on my mind."
Johns sighed, had he really shown that he didn't care? "Kayden-"
"It's fine... we can talk later."
Johns leaned over, kissing the top of her head. He had a life with her, they would be getting married soon, but he was still stuck in the past. "Alright, we'll talk later."
