chapter eight

miss jenn and carlos smiled at the girl as she looked at the music player who started the song leighton had chose for her audition. it was a fair 2000s song by michelle branch. and it was called 'breathe'. something leighton needed to do constantly and she loved it so much. clearing her throat she sang,

"i've been driving for an hour. just talking to the rain. you say i been driving you crazy.. and it's keeping you away. so just give me one good reason. tell me why.. i should stay.." leighton took a deep breath before singing a little louder. "cause i don't want to waste another moment, saying things we never meant to say."

carlos looked at miss jenn with bright eyes and wrote quickly in the green notepad that sat on her desk. "and i, take it just a little bit. i, hold my breath and count to ten. i've been waiting for a chance to let you in.." leighton breathed out and saw ricky sitting in her previous spot in the audience with the largest grin on his face.

"if i just breathe, let it feel the space between. i'll know, everything is alright. breathe... every little piece of me, you'll see everything is alright.. if i just breathe.." she continued and her friends in the audience all smiled at her as she was coming to a finish with her song.

"everything is alright if i just breathe.. breathe. i've been driving for an hour, just talking to the rain.." leighton trailed off as an explosion of applause echoed in the auditorium. ricky rushed up towards her as she was walking down and picked her up and twirled her around as he let her sit.

leighton turned and blew large kisses to gina, ashlyn and kourtney who gave her thumbs up. the girl let her eyes trail over carson and lily who had different emotions. one was a look of competition and another was impressed. the rest of the solos ended with big red tap dancing.

in the middle of his performance he managed to trip over as everyone gasped. there was a laugh that echoed and everyone glanced at lily with disgust.

ricky ran up to help his friend with leighton sitting up in her chair fast. ricky managed to help and convince big red to finish his audition. "breathe. like leighton said. just breathe you got this." she heard him say as he dashed off the stage. "you're the sweetest friend ever and i love that." leighton whispered and rest her head on his shoulder.

"and that concludes today's audition!" miss jenn announced as she stood up and walked away with carlos and her notepad. leighton left ricky's side to talk to others as they discussed how well the solos went. "leighton you were amazing. i am manifesting this for you." kourtney said as time ticked by.

"oh stop it, you guys were amazing as well. women power is what this school needs and you all gave it to us. but gina, what changed your mind about performing with them?" leighton questioned as everyone was called to the hallway for the cast list reveal.

"how about i tell you after the list goes up?" she said as ricky placed his arms over the girl's shoulders. "is that drama i smell brewing?" he questioned in a high pitched voice. "clear!" carlos yelled making his way through the antsy teens. everyone shoved through the hallways as ricky yanked leighton towards the window the list was on.

"ric calm down, it's going to still be there after thirty seconds." leighton laughed as they waited to see what roles they got. there were squeals surrounding the couple as they made their way to the front. leighton dropped ricky's hand from hers and her mouth fell open. people started shaking leighton and ricky as they both stood in front of the cast list.
