"Come on, I wanna see your ass move!" Clara shouts so I can understand what she's saying. The music is way too loud for having a normal conversation. Clara is getting loose on the dancefloor, dragging me with her. My head starts to spin from the alcohol. Clearly, I've had one drink too much. From the moment we got here, I knew that is what's going to happen tonight. With everything going on, this is the distraction I needed. The judge called again this afternoon, saying there appeared a whole bunch of evidence out of nowhere. He told me about how they would contradict my statement without exception. Hearing this, I crashed. Luckily, it didn't happen again at school. Clara arrived half an hour later and took care of me. She doesn't know everything that happened but enough for her to understand me. At court, she stood by my side every single time. At the hospital, Clara came by daily to check on me. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be here slowly finding myself again.
As the night went on, we decided to make our way home. Since everyone is way too drunk, we gotta walk. My apartment is about an hour away.
It got a little cold outside. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring my jacket. The sidewalk is light up from the inside of the club. Few people are smoking their last cigarette before going home. At the corner on our left, two lovebirds are making out heavy. Back in the day, I used to be like that. Clubbing, just to find someone to spend the night with. It was before the time with him. Before my whole world turned around. Before I collapsed.
"Honey, are u okay?" Clara must've noticed. "Yeah, everything fine," I reply. Her look tells me that she doesn't believe me. "Do you want me to sleep over?" She suggests. "Really, everything is..." before I can finish my sentence, the girl at the corner locks her eyes with mine.
What the actual hell? How is it possible? What is she doing here? Out of all people, why does it have to be her?
She doesn't even bother to stare directly at me while the other girl is literally eating her neck. Her look is wild, filled with pleasure and desire. The corners of her mouth go up. Almost like she wants me to see her exactly like this. Suddenly I remember what happened earlier today. Olivia Michaels told me to fuck off, me, her teacher. Only the thought of it makes me furious.
The moment I start to go over there, a hand grabs me by the arm. "Sarah, what are you doing?" It's Clara's voice. I completely forget our conversation seconds ago. "Sorry, just a minute."
With determined steps, I walk over to Olivia. "Excuse us for a minute, please?" I say to the women, still licking Olivias neck like it's some kind of ice cream. She confused looks at Olivia, who turns to tell her: "Doesn't matter, you can stay darling." The smirk on her lips growing from amusement. That girl is making me crazy.
"Fine. Olivia, I won't accept this thing. Whatever you're promising yourself to achieve with this childish behavior, you won't get it from me. Whether you stop or..." "Or what? Will I get detention, Miss Black?" She interrupts me rudely. "No, probably not. But you know what you won't get from me, Olivia Michaels? The English grade you need to pass your damn last year at this school. Otherwise, maybe you'd like to spend another year at this school?" Her face drops. "You're not in the position to do that." She snaps back. "Ohhh, I am. If I want you to fail, you will. I don't like doing things like that, but it's on you. Pull yourself together and figure out a way to work with me or lose. It's that simple." Her eyes are filled with pure anger, but instead of shouting, she blurts out emotionless: "Says the woman who can't even handle herself."
It hits me hard. Somewhere she shouldn't be able to hit me. My reaction must be the alcohol's fault, right? I feel my eyes tearing up. The moment we had back then was incredibly intimate. Only three people in my life ever saw me like that. Olivia is one of them. Not only did she just see me, but she also took care of me in a way nobody ever could. Never has someone calmed me down that quickly and gave me this feeling of pure safety. When she held me with her strong arms, it made me realize there is still hope. God, what am I doing?
"Come on, Sarah! I want to go home. This leads into nothing." I hear Clara begging. Before I can answer, Olivia takes the chance. "Didn't you see she's having a conversation? She is old enough to go home by herself."
Clara is one of the most patient people I know. Right now, she is everything but patient. Clara is looking like she's ready to fight an army. This is a disaster. "SHE can speak for herself. So how about you keep making out in front of the club as all the kids do?" She takes a few steps towards Olivia, who already got away from the other girl, ready to fight. The situation needs to be defused.
"Ehhhm Clara, it's fine. I know her personally. She's an old friend of mine." That is the only thing I get to say while tears started running down my cheeks. I lost control over my feelings. Before it gets any worse, my drunken self got an idea. Probably the worst one ever because I knew the possible consequences and outcomes of this thing. It could mess up my life even more.
Still, my heart tells me to do it.
