After giving therapy to hundreds of cancer patients without a license for seven years, Norman Baker bought the empty Crescent Hotel for his hospital. The year was 1937. There, he did the same horrific things to his patients. He made his "special elixir" using melon seed, alcohol, and other things that are useless for treating cancer. Well, his plan was to make millions, killing people who are gravely ill. He would experiment on patients in the hospital morgue. He tried to convince people that he had a cure. Really, he was just curing patients of their lives. Several of the radio networks he was on thought that he was incorrect. Well, Baker had no medical training whatsoever, no license, no anything.
Over 200 patients came to the Baker Hospital. Only a few kept their lives. At least 200 died. They are now haunting the hotel.
Baker was taken to court and was charged with fraud in 1940. He went to federal prison.
The building remained empty for decades, until it was bought and restored to the stately hotel it was long ago. Thanks to Dr. Baker, the Crescent Hotel is America's most haunted hotel. It's been visited by countless investigators, psychics and mediums, and every square inch of the place is haunted.
This was only a small amount of the Norman Baker story. If you want to spend an hour reading all about it, like I did, go to www.crescenthotel.com and read the article, The Norman Baker Story:Pure Hoax. This book cover is an old advertisement for Norman's hospital.
