Laughter echoed around the Ministry of Magic's fifth level and many passers by would peep into the office of the Head of the Department of International Magical Co-operation, amazed that the usually quiet Blaise Zabini was laughing with his head thrown back as a pale faced man stood next to him, scowling.

Inside the office, Draco leant against the back of Blaise's desk watching his best friend guffaw at his predicament. "Will you shut up Zabini!" he exclaimed and when Blaise showed no signs of stopping he swatted him on the arm and the laughter ceased instantly.

"That hurt." Blaise mumbled, rubbing at his arm.

"Good, it was meant to." Draco flashed Blaise a sardonic smile.

"Well let's put aside the fact that you're a horribly mean friend and discuss why you're here." Blaise said, grinning a little again.

"Thank you." Draco replied.

"So let me get this straight, you went and told your mother that you're going out with Granger? Granger of all the people in the world? Mate what in the name of Merlin has addled your brain!" Blaise asked, seeking a confirmation.

Draco sighed, running his fingers through his immaculate hair. "I know I messed up okay, what do you want me to do?" he asked.

Blaise grinned again and all Draco wanted to do was punch him, simply to get that stupid smile off his face. "Well I can give you two options, but it depends on how your parents reacted."

Draco shook his head, "That Blaise, is a whole other story. It was so unexpected I tell you, almost like Celestina Warbeck singing well."

"What happened?"

"I told my dear mother that I was seeing Granger, simply to stop her from pestering me about finding someone to share my life with and then she just deadpanned at me and said, that's the best decision I've ever made in my life and that Granger'll be a good influence on me! Then to make things even worse, she called my father from his study and told him too. His reaction was even more unexpected. He smiled, like genuinely smile and said- 'took you long enough son' like what in the name of Merlin was that all about?"

He turned to Blaise who had a knowing smirk on his face, looking all too smug. "Well I can see where they come from you know. While at Hogwarts, all you would talk about was Granger. I know you didn't realize that but it's true. Ever since she punched you in 3rd year I think you have a bruised ego around her and there's always been this chemistry of sorts between you two, especially in the final year after the war." Blaise explained.

"You're wrong okay! For now, instead of analyzing my underlying feelings for Granger-which by the way are non-existent- can you please give me a way out?" Draco muttered, turning his gaze away from Blaise as his face heated up.

Blaise chuckled, raising his hands up in mock surrender. "Alright alright, now that I know what your parents think, there's only one option I can see for you."

"And you're going to give me this option when? After my mother has had wedding cards made for my wedding to Granger?"

"See the only thing you can do is use the elevator in this building and go down to level two where you will take the first left. The cabin at the far end of that passage will have a nameplate that reads 'Hermione Jean Granger- Head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.' You will then knock on the door and wait for her to let you in. If she doesn't punch you on the spot, you will proceed to explain what a mess you've landed in and beg her for help." Blaise finished with a sigh, rushing behind his desk once he spotted the look of rage on Draco's face.

"No. I am not begging to Granger for anything, especially not in matters regarding my family. Give me some other solution Zabini."

"Then Malfoy," Draco registered that Blaise was ridiculing him once again, "you will go to your house and explain to your parents that you have lied to them, tell them the truth this time and pray to Merlin that they don't exclude you from their wills." Blaise explained, settling on his desk chair, waiting for an reply.

Draco groaned, pulling at his hair in pure frustration. A moment of contemplation later, "Which way is Granger's office again?" he asked Blaise.

"Second floor, far end of the first passageway to the left."

As he watched Draco exit his office, a definite slump in his shoulders, Blaise hoped that this web of lies Draco had spun would land him in some good.
