"Mother no. For the love of Merlin I am not going to marry her. She is a friend of mine, I don't like her like that." said Draco as he loosened his tie. He had just come home from work and to his misfortune, his mother had started her usual ramble about his marriage.
"But Draco darling, she said she would love to get to know you better. Doesn't that imply that she likes you?" said Narcissa, following her son into the living room. "I see no reason for you not to go on at least one date with her, she is charming, polite and of a similar stature to ours."
Draco let out a long sigh, clearly, convincing his mother was not as easy as he had hoped. "Astoria is a lovely woman mother and I do enjoy times spent with her but I do not think she and I need to be romantically involved."
Narcissa gazed at her son in an almost calculative manner, "But Draco you're 28 now, surely you would like for some companionship. Someone who'll be by your side for the rest of your life."
"Mother I have Blaise for companionship and I really don't think I need anyone else." Draco rolled his eyes, settling himself on the couch and picking up a copy of The Daily Prophet.
"Well I'm sure Blaise has better things to do than keep you company all the time. Isn't he courting Miss Parkinson? They do make a lovely pair, just like you and Astoria would." Narcissa was not letting up, she knew it would annoy him but after all- she just wanted the best for her son.
Weary of her constant attempts, Draco groaned. There had to be some way to put her off his topic. Rubbing his temple, he closed his eyes momentarily. As an idea formulated in his brain, he turned to his mother barely suppressing a smirk. "Well I can see that there's no swaying you mother. As much as I appreciate your efforts for finding me a partner there's no need for you do so."
Narcissa's face fell, "But sweetheart.." she began but was immediately cut off.
"And that is because I'm already seeing someone."
Narcissa gasped and embraced Draco in a tight hug. "Oh that is lovely! Who is she? Do I know her? When are you bringing her over? I would love to meet the woman who has captured my son's heart." she rambled.
Draco had to stop her from her continuous chatter by taking her hand and firmly placing her in the couch, this he had not foreseen. "She and I have only been dating a few weeks mother- I don't think it's a good idea for you to meet her just yet. Merlin knows what new embarrassing childhood tales you'll be telling her." he explained.
Narcissa nodded in understanding, "At least tell me her name Draco."
Draco scratched the back of his head in nervousness. How was he to tell her a name if there was no woman. He took a deep breath and in a voice unusually quiet, mumbled "Hermione Granger."
A/N: Chapter 1 forms Draco's side of needing to 'date' Granger. I was going to include Hermione's bit too but because I want this to be a slow burn kinda book- chapters might be a bit shorter. Ending is quite trashy IMO but I wrote this in the middle of class so bear with me. Chapter 2 will be up soon!
