The black Cadillac drove down the dimy lit highway. Its two passengers losing the feeling in their bums from sitting too long."How much longer till we get there?" Luke Johnson ask his older brother, Matt.
"Just over an hour,"Matt begins,"but in a little bit, you're taking the wheel."
After wasting the last 20 years living in the same boring town, the two boys decided it would be best to travel the country. So they packed up everything they could into their suitcases and drove away, never to look back. That was about two days ago. So far, most of their time has been spent driving to their first destination. Charlotte,NC.
"What is that?" Matt asked, pointing to the dark figure ahead of them.
"I'm not sure," luke said, as they grew closer to it. It wasn't until they were only few feet away that they realized it was a person. a girl. Matt slammed on the brakes and the car screeched to a stop.
"Oh my god," they both exclaimed at the same time. The girl ran to Luke's door and stared pounding on the window. He rolled it down, asking her repeatedly to chill out.
"Help me," she begged,"you have to help me."
Matt told her to get in the back seat. "Everything will be okay," he assured her. The car pulled into the parking lot of the nearest motel. The nameless girl was very nervous and kept looking around her. She didn't stop until they reached the motel room.
"Who are you?"Luke asked, sitting down on one of the two beds in the room.
"Emily," she answered in a soft tone.
"Emily, what were you doing in the middle of the road?" Matt wondered.
"Waiting."
"What were you waiting for?" Luke asked.
"The end,"Emily whispered," I wanted it all to end." Her voice was barely loud enough for them to hear, but they did, despite her silent prayers. Matt grabbed onto Luke's collar, pulling him towards the small kitchen area.
"Dude! What are we gonna do with some suicidal freak?" The eldest brother whisper-yelled. Matt's never been accused of being the sympathetic one of the duo and for good reason.
"Well, first of all, were not gonna refer to her as a freak," Luke began,"and secondly, we're gonna.. I don't know, help her."
"So, like a therapist?"
"Yeah, I guess."
"Okay, fine. But while you play Dr. Phil, I'm taking a nap," Matt said, walking past the mute girl and flopping onto his bed,"oh, and you're driving next." Once, Luke new his brother was asleep, he sat next to Emily and talked to her in the most soothing voice he could manage.
"Hey, if you don't mind me asking, why do you want to end it all?" But I guess she did mind because she didn't answer- didn't even blink. Luke sighed, realizing that she didn't plan on talking anytime soon. So, he grabbed a spare blanket and a pillow and flopped onto the little couch in the living room area as sleep engulfed him.
