Chapter 10

"It's easy being with you, sacred simplicity,

As long as we're together, there's no place I'd rather be."

('Rather be' - Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne)

You're laying in bed as the hot shower has made you so relaxed that now you could just fall asleep immediately. You're hugging one of the pillows to yourself, listening to Jake quietly typing on his phone, his thumbs touching the screen as he's currently reassuring the group that you both are okay and no one is in trouble.

"I need a new phone," you murmur sleepily.

He lies down next to you and pulls you into his arms, giving you a soft kiss on your forehead.

"We can buy you a new one on the way back home?"

"Sounds like a plan."

You snuggle closer to him, burying your face into his chest. Then, a quiet ping comes from his phone, a notification of a new text. He checks it quickly, turning the screen slightly so you could see it as well.

"They want to meet tonight for a drink," Jake says.

"Well, if we wanna leave Duskwood soon, maybe we could have one last get together with them."

"When exactly do you wanna leave?"

You shrug.

"I don't mind. I kinda wanna get outta here as soon as possible," you admit with a sigh. "Duskwood is... fucked up."

Jake lets out a quiet laughter.

"It is indeed. Do you want me to let them know?"

You nod, and Jake types. A second later, a new message appears from Jessy, a sad smiley face.

"Maybe we could meet them tonight, then."

"If that's what you want," Jake smiles. "Fine by me."

Another message. Dan has just suggested Aurora.

"Phil would hate us," you mutter.

"I have to agree."

"Are you still keen on your theory that he's into me?" you ask Jake, teasing him a little bit.

Jake thinks for a second.

"I'm not too keen on it, but I'm almost sure of it. But... it doesn't bother me."

You frown.

"It doesn't?"

Meanwhile, the group agrees on meeting up at Aurora at eight tonight, so Jake sets an alarm for seven o'clock.

"No. It did for a moment, but... I'm just happy to have you."

You smile at him, and he places his phone onto the night stand, pulling the blanket onto the both of you. You fall asleep almost immediately as Jake pulls you into his arms once again.

The loud pings of the alarm scares you a little. You sit up on the bed, looking around in the dark motel room, just a tiny beam of light from the street lamp from across the motel lights up the corner of the room. Jake reaches for his phone to turn off the alarm, a long stretching follows.

"Did you sleep well?" he asks as he looks at you. Although he probably can't see much of you.

"I guess so," you nod as you get out of the bed, and Jake finally turns on the little lamp on the nightstand. "You?"
