You woke up being held in Bucky's arms, but you could sense an urgency in the way he had nearly crushed you trying to pull you closer to him. You heard him mumbling, and you were trying to break free from his grip so you could fully analyze what exactly was happening. You knew it was still pretty early in the morning because of the lack of light in the room. You managed to pull away and pay enough attention to what he was saying to know that he was having a nightmare.

You had only ever been present for a hand full of his bad dreams. Back at the compound, whenever Bucky was having a rough night, he or Friday would usually notify Steve. There were only a couple of times you had both fallen asleep in the others' apartment and he started mumbling, yelling out, and maybe once had flailed his arms and broken a lamp. He had never hurt you during these times, but he would always apologize and hideaway, regretting that he let himself get close to you, and potentially put you in danger.

You tried to wake him up by nudging him and calling his name but he wasn't moving. You moved on top of him and attempted to use your powers to read him and help wake his mind up. You had never tried this before. Wanda, another Avenger who had similar powers to you, had warned you to never look into the minds of others while they were dreaming. Steve had told you to never try and wake Bucky up, that it could be dangerous. Well, you didn't have a super-soldier who was strong enough to keep Bucky in one place... So, you'd have to wake him up and use your abilities before it got too out of control.

You reached your hand on his temples and immediately got sucked into his mind. In real life, you could feel him stirring underneath you, but in the dream, you were like a ghost watching the event unfold. He was being contained in a chair, people in white coats were all around. You had just realized, you were at a Hydra base. He was panicking, it was so sad that he had to relive his torturing every night. In front of you, a man came up and spoke the first bit of English you understood since entering his mind. The man slapped his face and yelled "Mission Report Soldat or she gets it," You looked to see yourself, malnourished and bruised in a corner with men standing all around you, ready to harm you further. You couldn't take anymore. You closed your eyes and focused on waking back up to your mind.

You pulled your hands off his temples and the both of you flashed awake. You were crying. You couldn't believe it, no wonder Bucky seemed so distraught after each dream. You looked down at him and his eyes started to open. At least your mind tricks had worked. He was a sweaty mess beneath you, when his eyes adjusted and he saw you on top of him crying, he assumed the worst.

"Y/N? Oh shit," he gently moved you off of him onto your spot on the bed and got up backing himself into a corner.

"Buck -" you reached your hand out, trying to comfort him in some way.

"No, I could hurt you. A- Are you okay? What did I do to you while I was out?" he said shakily.

"Bucky, you could never hurt me, I am okay. I- I just looked into your dream to try and wake you up somehow before it got out of control, for your own sake. But-," you said while dropping your hand.

"I'm sorry, I should go and just sleep on the cou-"

"No," you interrupted. "I mean, stay here. Please. We can watch something again, I just had no idea they were that bad." you spoke softly. You decided you weren't going to tell him how you saw yourself in his dream. You knew he already felt guilty for something he couldn't control. You patted on the bed and reached out trying to pull him back to you.

He slowly calmed down and inched closer to you, eventually getting back into the bed. You snuggled up close to him, carefully seeing if any of your actions made him uneasy before you settled your head on his chest. He turned on a movie and you two were able to get some more rest before your day began.
