He wished the donut-loving sherif would just stop whistling. Ramsey Murdock had turned himself in at Redwood Run to get away from her but now all he could think about was her.
The whistling. The rhythmic steps. The smug look on her face. The fear that even though she knows he's worth more alive she'll just kill him for the hell of it.
He was transported back to that place. Back to when he was hiding behind a CEO's desk praying no one would go looking. But she did. She found him. She made sure to let him know she will always find him.
He looked to see if the burn mark was still there. It was. Of course it was. He started hyperventilating. His ears started ringing. Something very unexpected broke him out of his trance.
"Would you like a pinecone?"
