Aizawa Pov:

I awoke to a scream echoing the hallway. 'Shit, Hitoshi had another nightmare...'

We adopted Hitoshi about 3 years ago.

Me and my husband Hizashi were assigned to assisting a drug raid. After a few months of precise planning and a few all nighters, we were ready to storm the place.

Once we did, we were appalled to find a small, malnourished boy living at the filthy apartment, if you could even call that living. It turns out that he was the son of the upcoming cartel leader and it was safe to say that they didn't care much for the kid.

He had a muzzle tightly strapped to his face, preventing him from talking at all and he was sat in the corner of the room with his head down. He definitely knew we were there but he just shuffled closer to the wall and avoided any eye contact.

I wondered if the kid had a powerful, voice related quirk or if the cartel members could be cruel enough to enjoy this.

The kid had plenty of bruises etched onto his thin frame and he was sickly pale as if he hadn't seen the sun in years.

After the raid was successfully over and enough evidence was gathered against the cartel to keep the members behind bars, the kid was escorted to the hospital to be checked.

I visited him everyday and we began getting along really well. He didn't speak after getting the muzzle off but he would make little gestures with his hands and write things down for us. Hizashi began teaching him sign language to help with communication and he loved it.

After a month in the hospital, he was looking so much happier. We found out that his name was Hitoshi and that he was 12 years old, he loved cats, what his quirk was and what his personality was like.

Whilst he was still mute and we only received this information on paper, I was glad. But when it was time for him to be discharged, we soon realised he had nowhere to go. When he was asked if he had any relatives, he just looked so lost. It broke my heart.

I was not about to let this sweet, already traumatised child be filtered into the system. I had seen how brutal it could be and I didn't want that for him. He could just be adopted into another abusive household and I refused to let that happen.

Me and Hizashi talked it over for a few days until ultimately deciding that we would Foster him until he was ready to be adopted into his forever home. However, we found that after a few months of having him stay with us, neither us or Hitoshi wanted that to happen. He fit perfectly into our little family and we cared for him a great deal. We filled out the adoption papers soon after and he was welcomed as an official member of the Aizawa-Yamada family.

We also adopted a girl called Eri about a month ago. She's an angel and she gets along with Hitoshi perfectly, he's an amazing big brother.

A villain named Overhal was using her to create an anti-quirk drug, but after she had left the hospital she too had nowhere to go. We offered to take her in and again ended up adopting a few months later.

I think it's nice for Hitoshi and Eri to have some company. Many times I've found them asleep together on the sofa or in Toshi's bed. Once they made a Fort in the living room and I found them both asleep, curled up on top of a mountain of blankets and cushions inside. Obviously I whipped out my phone and took a picture, I never miss an opportunity.

Now, it's 4:36am and I'm awoken by Hitoshi's screams.

Hello, this is Nyx!
I'm back!
Yes I changed Hitoshi's backstory. I cringed everytime I read the old one and also this gives a better explanation for trauma ✨✨✨
