"who was that?" my mum asks me as soon as i get in the car

"just a friend" i tell her, reaching for the seatbelt

this was a rare occasion. getting picked up by my mum hardly ever happens but she had a day off

"are you sure, nobody's pestering you again?" she says staring up the car "isn't that that Charlie boy?"

"god! i do have friends you know" i say raising my voice a little "and yes it is"

"i know, i know, it's just you didn't tell me last time it happened"

"i didn't want you to get involved"

"bullying is serious, you know that right?"

"yes, he's not giving me any bother, in fact we're going out tonight"

"oh, a date?"

"friends" i say "can you start to drive please?"

she puts the car into gear and drives. A minute or two later my phone dings, i pull it out of my bag to see who it is

Sawyer.

"is that that boy?" my mum asks

i just shake my head and pull up the message

"it's someone else" i tell her "like i said, i have more than one friend"

my mum just rolls her eyes as a response

Sawyer: Hey Gabss, was wondering if tonight was ok for our date ;)

crap.

Gabriella: Yeah, tonight sounds great :)x

i sigh to myself forgetting i'd said i'd go out with Sawyer

at least i have two people that want to go out with me...

i put my phone down but as soon as i do it bings again, not from Sawyer this time, it's Charlie

Charlie: was thinking 5? i'll pick you up?

it was currently 3:40

Gabriella :will see you then x

as soon as i hit send another text comes in from Sawyer

Sawyer: pick you up at 7? motorcycle btw ;)

Gabriella: can't wait x

this is going to be a rushed Friday night

i tuck my phone away back in my bag before it can ding again

"you're always on that phone now a days" she says as soon as she stops at a red traffic light

"mhm" i say, not really wanting to start a conversation

"Gabriella?"

"Mum?"

"have you had anyone at the house recently?" she asks, making me a little bit nervous

"no, why would you think that?" i ask

"well, it's just a lot of food was used over the span of 2 days for just a girl like you"

"i got hungry?" i say, coming out more of a question

"and another thing" she says

man she does not know when to stop talking

"yeah?"

"where have all the beers gone?" she asks

"what do you mean? there's like 5 in the fridge"

"and there was about 15 when i left"

"you count the beers?" i say giggling a bit

"Gabriella, don't give me that attitude"

"i didn't give you any" i say being honest because i didn't

"you've changed over that past month"

"because i've started to wear makeup? that's hardly changing" i say with a lot of attitude in my voice

"no, i mean personality wise" she says

"woah, i'm surprised you even knew what i was like before this"

"what's that suppose to mean?" she says a bit taken back

"it means that you're never around to notice anything"

she just ignores my last comment and carries on driving

my phone dings so i pull it back out of my bag to see who it is and what they're wanting

Sawyer again.

Sawyer: btw dress fancy babe

well i'm not going to wear a dress to McDonalds so i'm going to have to get changed again which is annoying. The time is now 3:50 so i decide to text Charlie changing times

Gabriella: Hii, is 4:30 ok instead?x

Charlie: ooo, someone's a bit desperate

Gabriella: so 4:30?x

Charlie: Yeah, i'll pick you up then x

oh, would you look at that, Charlie Lenehan sending a 'x' how rare.

i can no longer hear the car engine which clearly means we've stopped

"Gabriella" my mum says to me just before i get out the car

i turn round to face her, to see what she's going to say

"who had the beer?" she asks, bringing this up again

"god, nobody was here, you clearly counted them wrong" i quickly escaped the car before she could say anything else. I then went upstairs to start getting ready for my McDonalds date with Charlie.
