??? POV: the sound of running was echoing all around the New York alleyways yet all I could feel was cold from my neck down well almost my leg was scraped and bleeding
"Maybe I'm going to see my mom again in a place called Heaven I think that's where she went at least that's brother said" I thought then just before my eyes closed fully I felt being picked up my vision was still blurry but I made out blue eyes and a blue mask of some kind
"Oh sweet mother of mutagen what happened to this young child their as cold as ice..." a voice said it sounded like a boy but he didn't call me a mutant or freak then I felt something like a blanket placed on me it warmed me a little bit then I heard another voice
"Yo dude what's-" the voice suddenly was cut off by a loud gasp my eyes moved to the sound there was someone with blue eyes and something orange on his face like a mask the one who gasped had a purple mask with brown eyes? who are they? why are they helping me?
"Dudes we need to get her back to the lair!" the guy with the orange mask said then I felt a warm hand on my face as my vision became slightly clearer their skin was green like mine was he a mutant turtle like me...? It would make sense if they would help me because I'm like them?
"Whoa dudes she seems to be awake but barely" the orange turtle said I tried to speak but only came out as a pained sound they noticed that quickly
"Oh my she's hurt!" the purple masked said as my eyes closed feeling darkness blind me
Leonardo's POV: as I held the small child to my body keeping her warm as best as possible I saw blood staining the blanket we found me and my brothers Donnie Raph and Mikey rushed home to our father and sensei Master Splinter keeping the child close to my body for warmth being cold blooded wasn't good she could've died out there! I told Donnie to get his lab ready and for Ralph to get Master Splinter soon Master Splinter came in a worried expression present
"Leonardo what or who is that your holding?" Master Splinter asked I told him while we were on patrol I saw some purple dragons hurt the girl I was holding and they left her there to die in the cold of an alleyway Master Splinter looked shocked at my answer or how I was holding the child all he did was place a hand on the child's forehead
"Hmm her spirit is strong and running a fever" Master Splinter said before walking away to the kitchen for some reason but I wrapped her in more blankets hoping to warm her up when I got a better look at her she had scars some bleeding other scars weren't thankfully not yet I worried I wrapped bandages around all her scars
"Leonardo you seem to fear the child may not make it don't fear she will" Master Splinter said I smiled and thanked him as the child woke up their eyes were amber brown color like Donnie's eyes were she looked around the best she could I smiled softly to her and helped her sit up as well she weakly smiled to me her amber eyes reminded me of Donnie's eyes but hers were a little bit darker I asked her if she was okay
"Where...am...I?" The girl asked her voice filled with exhaustion or was it pain? I couldn't tell and that made me worry more as I slowly explained to her what happened to her and where she was
"You helped me...?" She asked confusion in her voice I nodded and wrapped her in another blanket she let out a tiny chirp sound which surprised me
"C...can I have something to drink...?" She asked I nodded and was about to turn around to ask sensei if tea was a good idea but I saw he came back with the kettle and poured a cup of tea and handed it to her she smiled softly carefully taking the cup
"T-Thank you" She said drinking said tea now that I could actually see clearly I saw around her wasn't a blanket but more of a coat and around her neck was a beautiful necklace and she seemed to still have human blood in her as unlike us she had hair like a human it was a kinda dark brownish color and that made my blood boil inside me who would dare make a child a mutant?! I took a deep breath and saw the child take something out of the pocket a photo of a very beautiful woman with long brown hair and beautiful Sapphire eyes seeing the similarities I concluded that woman must be the mother of the child they look almost alike
"Like Mother like Daughter" Master Splinter said softly as not to disturb the child as he got up probably to tell Donnie to hurry up and find the first aid kit I asked her if that was her mother
"Yes this is mommy....Big brother Casey said she went to heaven" the little girl said shocking me no there has to be a mistake Casey only has one sister named Ella and she's dating Raph! I mentally facepalmed realizing I never asked for her name I asked her what her name was
"Hailey....Hailey Jones" Hailey said shocking me greatly so that means the woman I saw enter earlier was Hailey's stepmother I asked her who hurt her praying I was wrong only Hailey didn't answer right away it was like she was trying to figure out how to tell me
"Mother....no Sharon did this.." Hailey said softly Sharon must be the stepmothers name I made a mental note to call Casey and question him if his father ever remarried then Donnie and Master Splinter entered Donnie holding a first aid kit
"Okay Leonardo what did you learn about the child?" Master Splinter asked as Donnie put a heating pad on Hailey and got to work cleaning up the scars she had and I filled Master Splinter in on her name and family and everything else I learned he seemed surprised as well but only for a second he looked like he was thinking about something
"Leonardo contact Mackenzie and Madeline immediately they will be helpful I'm sure" Master Splinter said I nodded pulling out my phone and texting them in a group chat Mackenzie er Macy I mean and her younger twin sister Madeline er I mean Mabel were with April studying so I explained that me and my brothers found a child in a summery and sent the text then a few minutes later I was getting a facetime call from April when I picked up she and Casey looked scared but I didn't see Macy nor Mabel in the call I figured they must be at home if they aren't with April or maybe they were on their way here
"Where did you find the kid dude?!" Casey asked nervous I told them in more detail who she was and where we found her and so on Casey was shocked
"My Pops got remarried?! And the stepmother was neglecting Hailey?!" Casey asked anger in his voice I nodded telling him he was right and that Hailey was talking to master Splinter about what she was going though
"Okay I'm on my way I'll go into Hailey's room and get her stuff she leaves her window unlocked for me just in case and I have a key to the apartment as well" Casey said running out of frame of the phone leaving only April and me
"So how's Donnie?" April asked I told her he was fine and that he and his Girlfriend Mabel were doing great as well and that Donnie was making great progress with creating retro mutagen I could see April smile softly at the news
"That's good look I'm sorry I really didn't know Donnie had a crush on me and Casey told me that his girlfriend died in an accident so I thought maybe I could help him move on and let go of the past but I didn't think he would lie to me about Mabel dying in an accident..." April said I sighed softly I told her I understood and asked her if she had any hoodies that don't fit her anymore
"oh yeah I have a ton do you need a specific kind?" April asked I told her if she had any that were in her terms fluffy on the inside and out
"oh yeah I have a ton of those and some that have large pockets as well" April said I smiled and thanked her then I saw April looking behind me stars in her eyes when I turned around I saw Master Splinter holding a hair brush and helping Hailey with her hair despite being a turtle mutant like me and my brothers she still had hair on her head I smiled and saw Casey enter holding several bags all in flower patterns
"I'm here! and I got all of Hailey's stuff!" Casey said seemingly out of breath I was confused and asked him what was in the bags
"Mostly sweaters bedding pillows books a few plushies things like that" Casey said surprising me as he took out a small lilac bear it looked fairly new and he even had a backpack on his back I could see that there was a cord sticking out I asked Casey about it
"Oh its for her speakers she plugs them into her device to get better sound" Casey explained I nodded to him understanding when I looked back to tell Hailey Casey was here I saw her asleep a book about space on her stomach like she fell asleep reading it I softly chuckled and carefully picked her up placing her on the couch and Casey putting a fluffy blanket on her to keep her warm I smiled softly as I went to meditate to clear my mind
