I just kept running, no stopping, no matter what. I couldn't let them catch me. It was one little slip up. I didn't mean for the old man to see me stealing a sandwich. I mean come on it was one sandwich, he probably had hundreds, considering he owned a restaurant.
"Get back here, you little rat!" I heard the man call. Who calls a kid a rat? I mean I get that I look like one because I haven't had a shower in weeks, but gosh old man.
I looked back to see if the man was still chasing me, luckily he wasn't, but I just had to miss a step and fall. I fell right on my arm.
I stood up and walked into a alley. I looked at the sandwich, it was smushed, but I took a bite out of it anyways. I started to walk away, taking small bites out of the sandwich, hoping to save some. I turned when I heard a large crash coming from beside me, further into the alley. Great, someone just had to ruin my amazing day.
Note the sarcasm.
I saw someone in the dark, I went to turn around, trying to run, but someone grabbed my shoulder. "Get off me." I yelled out. "Why are you stealing?" The person asked. That's when I realized who it was. Batman. I've never actually even seen him, but I've heard a lot about him. This is definitely not how I wanted to meet him.
"Why are you stealing?" I looked at him like he was stupid. "Why do you think I was stealing!" I yelled out. He let go of me. "How old are you?" He asked. I looked at him confused. "Why in the world would you want to know how old I am?" I could see him roll his eyes.
"Just tell me." "15, now would you be a kind man, and let me go." I said, putting on a fake smile. "Fine, if you want me to let you go the cops will be here in five minutes." He said as he grabbed my arm again. "No!" "If you don't want to go to jail for theft, you can come with me and I can help you,"
"Why would you want to help me?" He looked at me for a while, he finally said, "Because you just a kid, you don't need to be out here in the cold, all alone." I looked at him nodded. "If I go with you do you promise I won't go to jail?"
"Yes, now come on, I don't have all day."
And that is how Daneliya Lantsov became a part of a family again. They might not be blood, but they're all she has left. Well at least that's what she thinks.
