So I don't usually write like this... despite this being the first one in this book. Im just trying to get a handle on writing again since do pACING FOR SHIT. So some parts might go too fast, and I still need to learn how to write Ranmaru, but this is what I've got!

Walking home by yourself wasn't quite uncommon, but it was sometimes a welcomed idea to you. You liked the silence occasionally, it was calming, and even comforting. Spacing out and just thinking about any random "shower thought" could put you at ease after a tiring day.

However, sometimes it's hard to focus when there's someone near you.

When walking home from school, a boy would always walk in the same direction as you. You didn't know him, and he didn't know you. But it was ALWAYS the same walk home, same cold streets, same dimming street lights, same old sidewalks.

He was always on the other side of the street, and once you both made it to the corners, he'd turn the other direction, most likely to his own house.

You started noticing this after a while, and it may seem creepy, but you started studying him on these walks, just a glance every once in a while. You were curious, he obviously wasn't as "average" as he seemed. Mostly his fluffy hair and bandages that were throwing you off, but compared to most of the people in your grade, he seemed like a really sweet guy!

After this you started noticing him more, and it wasn't even on purpose. You passed by him at lunch a couple of times, saw him having a conversation with one of your friends after class, he was even outside in the courtyard when you just happened to look out the window from your classroom. It was so odd, you couldn't help but think why does he keep appearing?

Was the universe trying to tell you something? Or were you just being weird, we'll never know!

On one of those walks home from school, you just said "fuck it," and looked over to him. He didn't quite notice at first, keeping his eyes on the sidewalk ahead of him. He was glancing around at trees, houses on the street, deep in thought, until his dark blue eyes accidentally met with yours. Flustered, and a bit awkward at first, he immediately broke eye contact, looking around, quite possibly anywhere besides you, and honestly you did the same. Turns out you both were introverted messes when first meeting!

After this weird 8 second silence, you waved. He reluctantly waved back.

That next Monday, you saw him at lunch again, and this time HE waved at you. You of course, acknowledged this and waved back too. This cycle repeated almost every day for the week, and you were kind of enjoying it. You'd always get excited every time he waved first. It felt a bit strange, since you couldn't really call him a friend or an aquatence, you didn't know anything about him!

On another walk home from school, you decided to speak to him. Or, at least, you wanted to, but your nerves got the best of you. How do you even phrase that? "I know we've kind of been waving to each other for a few weeks, but I want to know your name."

you definitely need to work on that.

This desire to talk to him spanned across a few days, and you've "known" him for about two weeks at this point. Why were you getting nervous? Why could you not speak? What kind of shitty subconscious being is holding you back from just saying "hi, my name's y/n, what's yours?"

You made a goal, that you WERE going to talk to him by the end of the week. This "promise" to yourself dragged on though. Tuesday? No good. Wednesday? Nada. Thursday? Didn't see him at all, might've stayed behind to do some extra work.

That Friday, you HAD to. You just had to rip the hypothetical band-aid off, what's the worst that could happen?

You looked over at him across the street, gave him a wave, and he waved back.

You took a pause for a moment, your eyes darting down to look at your pacing shoes. You felt a bit dizzy, disoriented, even. Hands a bit shaky, mouth a bit dry, taking a deep breath in, you went to speak. You couldn't feel the words come out of your mouth, you almost felt frustrated with yourself. You tried mustering up the courage, opened your mouth and-

"Hey."

You whipped your head over to look at the opposite side of the street, mostly out of surprise.

"Oh sorry, didn't mean to scare you, uh.. we've just kind of been in this weird vow of silence and I wanted to kind of- uh- talk? My name's Ranmaru if you didn't know. What's yours?" He was kind of playing with the bandages on his hand, he seemed slightly nervous too.

You were still processing. Holy. Shit.

"Uh, yeah! Hi! I'm y/n! I've actually been trying to talk to you, I just... couldn't find the right words..." You let out a bit of a nervous giggle out of habit, oh god you hated when you did that. "Yeah sorry about that, 'was a bit weird."

"No, not at all! I didn't really know what to say either!"

"Hah, good to know it's not just me then."

You both settled back into silence, but this time it was a welcome one. It was calming, and even comforting. He spoke to you! You spoke to him! Progress!

"So I'll see you on Monday then?"

"Yeah, see you then."

You started seeing Ranmaru more than ever, of course. At lunch you guys sat together, and started getting to know each other. What after school activities you did, what shows you liked, hobbies, interests, even things like your favorite foods and colors. At one point you even looked up those dumb Buzzfeed quizzes that always said something "quirky" like "Tell us your perfect vacation and we'll tell you what type of tableware utensil you are!" It always got a laugh out of you two from how phony it was.

After lunch you'd go back to class, finish up school, and talk on your way home.

"and then, that mixture they made blew up! Like, smoke and fire and shit! I swear that teacher almost beat their asses, I don't know how they didn't get in trouble!" He held onto the upper sleeves of his black jacket as he laughed, recounting the events from his chemistry class.

You let out a chuckle, Ranmaru was an interesting story teller. You both liked telling each other about your day at school once it was over. A bit of a wrap-up after a tiring day, and he always made each story that much more dramatic.

"That's insane, I wish I could've saw it!" you added. "By the way.. uhm.."

He glanced over at you,

"What's up?"

"I was wondering, if you uh.. " You started getting nervous and hazy again. Why? Just spit it out y/n! It's now or never!

"if you uh.. wanted to go for coffee, or something? Tomorrow? I know it's a Saturday, and you might be busy but I was just-"

"Yeah, sure! Sounds nice." He replied. He smiled at you, his fluffy white hair blowing as the wind picked up a bit, it was getting late after all. "Wanna meet here tomorrow?"

"Yeah... see you then!"

You couldn't stop yourself from grinning.

Tadaa! I hope you enjoyed, I'd appreciate some feedback if you have any, still trying to get back into the writing groove!

See ya!
