Thought I'd mess around more with the idea of the reader being in the death game, and this probably isn't creative, maybe a bit angsty, mostly just more experimentation for myself. Here's some comforting Ranmaru!

Spoilers for chapter 3 by the way!!

You were holding yourself, hands gripping onto your upper arms. In a desperate attempt to comfort yourself and control your already messy emotions. You all had just gotten attacked by Maple, and Kurumada was injured. You sat with him and Anzu in the charging room while everyone had gone out to explore. You weren't sure where everyone was specifically, but there was too much on your mind to be thinking straight.

Jittery, shaky, terrified, were a few good words to describe your physical situation at the moment. As much as you didn't like Kurumada for his irrational anger, you felt sick thinking about how he had been torn through the stomach. It really was a clear and cruel reminder that your newfound friends were just dolls.

You couldn't help but think about Ranmaru, he always ended up coming to mind.

Despite being partnered with Sara, he always tried to talk to you. He'd calm your nerves in times of panic, occasionally put an arm around your shoulders and tell you that it's all going to be okay. Maybe he learned that from spending time with Sara too.

You felt yourself slightly relax at the thought of him being there. Regaining a bit of composure, you looked over at Anzu, who wasn't quite holding up well either. She was next to Kurumada, trying her best to help him, despite him refusing repeatedly, she just couldn't stand by, and I don't blame her.

You tried assessing the situation once more, but it only made you more anxious. Q-Taro Mai and Keiji are still downstairs, and there's nothing you could do to help them. Your breathing was labored, your body felt unsteady.

"Excuse me Anzu, Kurumada, I'm just stepping out for a bit. Ill be in the classroom next door if you need me. I just need some time to think." you mumbled.

"Sure! We'll be here y/n!"

"Thanks..."

You stepped into the other room, no one was there, hence why you picked that room. You just needed somewhere to shut out everything. Now somewhat numb, you brought yourself to the back corner of the room, facing the desks and chalkboard in front of you. That damn consent form being up on the board wasn't helping, but you just closed your eyes and tried not to think about it.

Pulling your knees up and propping your head on them, you choked on a sob. Putting your face down to hide the tears and muffle the sound, you cried. You didn't think it would be a lot, but it was. Hey, at least you were getting all of that piled up sadness out?

Ranmaru was walking down the hall, after investigating some of the equipment in the broadcast room, he decided he was going to visit Kurumada and Anzu to see how they were doing.

Of course, until he heard you.

He wasn't quite sure what he was hearing at first, but he already had a bad feeling about it. Ranmaru put two and two together and quickly realized someone was crying, although saying it  was just crying is an understatement. Slowly following the sound into the classroom, he was greeted with you in the opposite corner, curled up and shielded from the room by your arms. He immediately felt a sense of dread. Not because you were a nuisance, quite the opposite in fact. He felt awful that you were feeling so terrible, and that there wasn't much he could do to help.

Rushing over, he tried to calm you down, although he himself was panicking a bit too. Putting his arms on your shoulders, trying to get you to at least raise your head and look at him.

"Y/n, are you okay? What happened?" he yelped.

But you couldn't quite speak, sobs threatened to escape your throat once more. He brushed back your hair and put a hand on your cheek.

"Hey.. hey can you look at me?" Ranmaru said gently.

"I don't... I d-don't want you to see me like this." You managed to stammer out.

Despite your qualms he lifted your face up to look at his, and he had a surprisingly determined look in his eyes, it seems his timid nature melted away. He didn't want you to feel sad anymore.

"Look, I don't know what you're so upset about right now but it's all going to be okay, okay? I'm here." his hand that was by your chin moved to your back, he squeezed you into a hug.

Your tears spilled onto his jacket, which you felt bad about, but you just felt safe, he was naturally comforting. Suddenly the thought of losing Ranmaru crept into your mind and you suddenly felt a pit in your stomach, making you sob again. He held your trembling body, suddenly realizing that you were crying more than before.

"Please tell me what's wrong.. I want to help!"

"I-" you tried speaking through the tears, "I'm afraid that I'll lose you.. and I- and I-"

He sighed a bit, which turned into a smile. He didn't think you cared this much. "Alright that's enough that's enough.." He softly chuckled. "I'm not going anywhere."

"But- but what about-"

"Nope. Not going anywhere. That avocado-lookin' bastard isn't taking me down either." He gave you a pat on the head and moved back into a hug. He rested his head on your shoulder, slowly nuzzling into your neck and squeezing you around the shoulders once again. "Please don't worry about me, okay?"

You mumbled an "okay.." into his jacket. You just sat there for a while, enjoying each other's company.

You were both glad to have each other.

This one was a bit shorter.. 982 words, sorry about that. Might write another chapter soon!
