It was Friday evening, and I still wasn't dressed for my dad's charity event. I had been to millions of these before, so this was nothing new. At that moment there was a light tap at my door. "Empress," I recognized the voice as my dad's "Are you dressed?". My eyes trace down it the pizza stain on my shirt and respond "Almost!". "Well, y' better hurry or we'll be late!". I scramble from my bed to my closet. I almost trip, when I step on one of my little brother's Legos. "Daniel." I murmur under my breath. I scavenge for an elegant dress in my closet. My hands stop abruptly, when my mom's white, flowing dress stands out in my eyes. My hands slowly grab for the dress, and then I put it on as if it was a delicate flower.
I grab my clutch purse and sprint down the stairs. My dad waits at the front door for me, and he smiles when he sees me. "Y' look gorgeous, beautiful-perfect!" My dad complements, ringing is arm around my shoulder. "Aw, thanks dad. You look handsome yourself." I giggle. We skip out to his car like a bunch of little kids, and we laugh happily. The car ride was short and sweet and it was memory filled. "You okay, Emmy?" My dad ask gazing at me with concern. It didn't take long to notice that my eyes had welled up with tears. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?".
"Y' just looked a little blue, sweetie" he points out hopping out of the car.
"Something must've gotten in my eyes. No big deal." I lie. I had been blindly thinking of my mother, Jay, and that one robot, Seven. As soon as we walk into the event, my eyes bolt around the ground ball room the lawyers had rented. There was a stage with a polished podium with it. There were gold curtains accented with a deep crimson red. "Whoa." I gasp with my mouth wide open. My dad nods in agreement. "Let's dance, my dear." My dad request. I smile and nod my head.
The current music playing was waltz music, and I had been training for this day. My feet followed the music, and it felt great to waltz with my dad. At that moment, I feel a heavy vibration through my clutch. Hoping it was just a text, I kept on dancing. My phone kept on ringing like it needed me. "Be right back, Dad." I excuse, then I walk outside.
"Hello?" I answer.
"This is Jay."
I groan "What do you want?".
"You need to come back to my place."
"No thank you."
"Please, this is an emergency!" He tenses.
"What emergency?"
"Just come!"
"Fine!".
I quickly hang up the phone and stomp back into the building. I bite my lip nervously, as I approach my dad. "Hey sweetie. I know you really wanted to dance, bit something came up at work." Dad pouts. "It's fine. Can you drop me off at the house on the way?" I ask. My dad looks at me with eyes saying "What else was I supposed to do?".
As soon as dad drops me off, I call Jay. "Pick me up now." I tense. "Okay" he mutters.Jay finally arrives at my drive way admiring my mother's dress. "You look beautiful." Jay complements, stepping in closer to me. I nod my head and hop in his car.
In the car we don't communicate at the least. I just bite my nails, as he speeds toward his house. "Now tell me, what was the emergency?" I ask tensely. "You'll see." He smirks.
