Covered in Darkness

Walking through the meadow,
Looking at the flowers,
I never seemed to notice, the quickly passing hours.

The sun began to hide,
The sky was no longer blue,
The darkness overtook the land in which the flowers grew.

I tried to pick a flowers, to take some happiness home,
But I was blinded by the dark, and none of them have shown.

I'd think I almost got one, but it would slip right from my hands,
Doesn't the darkness get it?
Doesn't it understand?

One more time I grab onto nothing, reaching through this sea of black.
Darkness can you tell me, what do I need, what do I lack.?

It doesn't seem to answer,
My own thoughts begin to spin,
I don't think this is a war that I surely win.

I walk back through the meadow,
Not one flower in my hand,
I guess the darkness didn't get,
I guess it didn't understand.
