Wilbur had heard the news. It hurt. A lot. He felt like he wasn't enough. He stood in front of Jared's apartment door, holding flowers in his shakey hands. He didn't want to knock. What if his ex was there? Wilbur knew she was better for Jared. She'd make sure he was happy. He sighed and looked at his feet. He couldn't do this. He couldn't force himself to. It felt wrong, like he was ruining something perfect. He turned back around and walked back down the several flights of stairs, simply leaving the flowers and letter in Jared's mailbox. Why did he have to propose now out of all times? Jared had known how Wilbur felt. He said he felt the same. But now here he was. Wilbur felt broken. He walked out of the building and to his car, feeling heavy. He meant nothing. He'd known that. But it didn't help clear away this cloud. He put his head down, a few tears running down his cheeks. He'd never find someone like Jared ever again. That only made him feel more selfish than anything. He'd known Jared wouldn't feel anything. All this time... It was all just a way to get Wilbur to shut up, and he knew that. He left, feeling empty. Why had this all happened so quickly?
