"for two people getting married, they look very...."
"there's no correct word to describe it"
"they look very relaxed"
y/n had expected people to talk. isn't that what engagement parties are, after all?
a chance to judge and pass remarks and create an opinion of the lovely couple and estimate the money spent in the arrangements and review how good the food is.
is it a celebration? to some extent, yes. but is it necessary? not really. mainly just a show of wealth.
"wow you weren't kidding, the food really is good", gojo remarked to y/n, who was also eating the (fav food) that she had specifically requested be made.
"told you"
"we've been here for an hourrrr", he groaned, looking around, "we've already said hi to each other's parents, few relatives, a few higher ups, friends... what else is there to do"
almost everyone in the room was rich and judgemental. which is why the non judgemental people were a pleasure to be around.
she spoke a lot to shoko and utahime, who weren't even hiding their heartfelt condolences for her.
"y/n blink twice if you need help", shoko said
nanami was honestly very sweet. he was close friends with her brother so they knew each other considerably well.
he congratulated her very genuinely and asked her to let him know if satoru caused any trouble for her.
two or three people from the zenin family had also attended the party out of pure obligation. they were invited out of obligation too, anyway.
their parents had given them like a week max to pick out a date to get married and had requested it happen in december.
"okay i'll admit even i'm bored", she remarked after looking around for some more time, "come on, let's get out of here"
"we're ditching?", he asked
"why do you look surprised, you're the one who suggested it", she got up from where she was sitting, "or have you changed your mind?"
"lead the way y/n", he grinned, and both of them got up.
y/n's father, the head of the amashimo family looked at her quizzically. he could always tell what she was thinking and he smiled to himself. he decided to let her have her will, and cover for her even though she didn't specifically tell him she wanted to.
they sneaked into the kitchen without anyone noticing. y/n gasped.
"what is it?", satoru asked
"dessert"
"you make a great point"
they ate the dessert before it was served to the rest of the guests and thanked the entire team of chefs profusely. they smiled fondly and sent congratulations their way.
and then they got out through the back entrance.
she knew she was never going to hear the end of it from her mom but for some reason it didn't matter to her that much.
they walked to the nearest bar and sat down, despite looking pretty overdressed for it. they did attract a few glances when they walked in. gojo was very used to it. y/n was not.
"hi, what can i get for you?", the bartender asked
"vodka sprite please, preferably grey goose", y/n replied, "lots of ice"
