"darling, i loved you with all i had and this is how you repay me?", the unmistakable voice sent chills up her spine

y/n turned around, clenching her fists as she faced the raven haired man before her, running his fingers through his hair.

"suguru...", she breathed, not understanding what she was supposed to say or do. she froze in place.

"marrying satoru... what a joke", he scoffed, walking closer to her, "you really know how to hit where it hurts huh"

she took steps back from him on instinct as he got closer and closer. she felt the cold hard wall against her back, but she barely reacted to it.

"your parents always loved satoru, didn't they?", he continued, his fingers hooking around her chin to make her look at him, "always favoured him, always admired him."

"and what makes you think you have the right to talk to me after what you did?", she retorted, holding his wrist and yanking his hand away from her

he chuckled, leaning in closer so that one of his hands was resting against the wall, next to her head.

and she felt... fear. she felt unfamiliarity. she felt as if he was dangerous and it broke her.

the geto suguru that she fell in love with had disappeared when he betrayed her. what was left was a mere shell. the same face with a devastatingly different nature.

"after all this time, i used to think satoru still has everything.", geto chuckled dryly, "but then you married him"

"what are you talking about?", she closed her eyes, because if she looked at him for even another second, she would drive herself crazy

"he has a wife that doesn't love him", he brought his hand to touch her face, "i feel for him. i really do."

she tried to break free from his grip, desperate to get away from the man that broke her heart but he held her wrist, pinning her to the wall.

she might've been strong enough to take down a grade one curse on her own but she had always been weak for him, hadn't she?

"stop making assumptions about things you know nothing about", she put up a front for the sake of her pride

"i know what you look like when you're in love", he smiled and continued, "i know you like the back of my hand. and i know that you will never be able to love gojo satoru."

the words hit her right in the gut. thoughts that had settled in the back of her mind, that she had pretended to not know about.

"what the fuck do you want?", she yelled at his face, glaring, still trying to break free from him, "i haven't seen you in years and the only thing you have to say is you're angry i moved on with my life?!"

"i came to tell you that...", he leaned closer to her, his grip still tight on her, his breath on her neck, "never once in all these years..."

"suguru let me go..."

"did i ever stop loving you."

"what did he say?", satoru asked, his hands resting on y/n's shoulders.

she tried to get up from where she was kneeling, right across from the wall that his ex best friend had pinned her against not even a few minutes ago.

satoru stood up, holding out his hand. she used it to steady herself and got up. he noticed that her other wrist was bruised and that she was trembling. so he didn't let go of her hand even after she was standing.

and satoru's presence was helping her calm down but her thoughts were absolutely eating her alive.

satoru was a great friend to her. always had been, even years ago.

and although they had grown apart, they had managed to salvage a part of their previously close friendship.

back then, everything really did seem perfect.

satoru was the boy that couldn't be tied down. the kind that got bored quickly and never had a shortage of girls fawning over him. he loved playing the field.

and then there was his best friend, who fell for the one girl that was forbidden.

you see, suguru's family was not on great terms with y/n's. she didn't really bother about it much but her family did tell her to be wary of them.

so she met geto suguru on a whim. definitely not with the intention of falling in love with him. she just wanted to see what exactly she had to be so wary of.

so dramatic.

satoru used to hang around them a lot when they started going out. it was always alright for her to hang out with him, so he would pick her up from her house and then take her to see suguru.

he used to be a side character in her story.

someone she judged heavily for his womanising ways and overconfidence. someone that cheered her up when she had an argument with suguru. someone she eventually came to trust.

not someone she would end up marrying.

satoru and y/n slept in one bed, even if they didn't cuddle or anything of the sort. the bed was big enough for them to have some kind of distance in between them.

y/n was sleeping with her back facing to satoru. he didn't care about it because it wasn't unusual of her.

what was unusual was that he was worried about her. she had refused to discuss the contents of her conversation with suguru. she had barely said anything at all.

he was supposed to be on a business trip right now. but something prompted him to postpone it for a couple of days.

and his intuition was valid, because he woke up at 2am to soft sobs from the other side of the bed.

he turned around, watching her sleeping figure shake slightly.

he cared about her. he remembered how she used to be when his best friend was at the centre of her whole life.

he had wondered how people could love. he had wondered what it felt like. the concept in itself was so foreign to him.

surely, love was not the indescribable pain he felt when he drew y/n closer to him. when she buried her face in his chest.

when she said his best friend's name out loud in between heartbreaking sobs.

the relief he felt when she awoke from her nightmare and hugged him tight, when he held her till she calmed down and breathed easier.

surely that wasn't love.

right?

"you have some guts, showing up here", satoru was not surprised when his brother-in-law greeted him with hostility.

"i just... can i see y/n's old room?"

the statement was all that her brother needed to be set off. he held him by the collar, and satoru let him.

"you think you have any fucking right to demand things when all of it is your fucking fault?!"

"your sister meant the world to me", gojo satoru, the strongest sorcerer in the whole world, looked hopeless when he said that.

but the person opposite him was overwhelmed with grief. and he threw him against the floor of the living room.

"and is that supposed to bring her back?"
