Over and over again, the two kept shifting from one stall to another. While it seemed a bit excessive, Anastacius felt as if he needed to fatten her up a little, considering how she looked like she could be blown away with a single gust of wind.
Hours eventually passed and the two noticed how the sun had set, now replaced by an enchanting full moon.
Callista looked up, seeing countless starts twinkle in the night sky.
So much happened today that she wasn't even sure if this was real, or simply an illusion her mind concocted. The mysterious man was so kind, so considerate that she truly hoped this wasn't just some sick game her mind was playing with her. It's already done it so many times over in the past.
Callista bit into her lower lip, eyes now shifting to the scene in front of her.
Traveling bands, exotic dancers, bright lights, and laughter from dancing citizens. This was the climax of the Obelia Festival. It was a tradition that the citizens gladly participated in.
During the day, the people were free to enjoy the festival however they wanted too, but during the night, it was a tradition to dance. It was said to be a way to connect the empire.
Feeling a slight shift within her proximity, Callista turned her gaze to the man beside her. He looked indifferent. Clearly, he wasn't really interested in the tradition, nor the fun that came with the festival.
Callista wondered why he was even here in the first place. He wore neat and expensive looking clothes, which meant that he was either a rich merchant, or a noble man. But unlike some nobles that she knew snuck into the commoners festival, he didn't look the slightest bit intrigued, which meant that he definitely wasn't here just to have fun. Now, he was either a noble man who was just bored and decided to come here on a whim, unsure if he would even enjoy it or not, or he could be a merchant here for business. After all, while it probably seemed unlikely, the festival was a great way to make connections and deals, people tended to become more agreeable on this particular day.
Shaking her head from side to side, Callista brought her hands up to slap herself, causing the man beside her to slightly flinch at the odd behavior.
'No!' she thought.
She knew that she didn't have much time with him left, that much was painfully obvious. So instead of trying to figure out who he is, why not try to spend all the time she had left with him to the fullest.
To her, this was like a fantasy, for a man this good looking to suddenly pamper her and treat her like some precious jewel. Of course, she wasn't foolish, she had her suspicions, but it was nice to stay ignorant in this case. Even though it was only for a little while, it was nice feeling like someone actually cared about her.
Without giving him prior warning, Callista suddenly detached herself from the wall she was leaning on previously, feet directing her to where everyone else danced.
Feeling a sense of confidence built up within herself, Callista bravely walked to the center until she suddenly felt a tight grip on her wrist.
Turning back, she saw the mysterious man behind her. Callista observed his expression, noticing that despite how indifferent he looked, his eyes seemed to burn with something she couldn't quite comprehend. Was he perhaps...angry with her? But if that was the case, she couldn't understand why.
"Where are you going?"
Callista blinked a couple of times, unsure whether she heard him right or not. Oh, was he perhaps just worried that she'd get lost? Was that why he somehow looked...angry?
'I guess...that makes sense...' Callista thought, but it sounded more like a question than anything else. She was great when it came to talent alone, she could learn just about anything and absorb the new information like some sort of sponge. But while it was somewhat easy for her to tell some emotions, it was harder to tell more complicated ones. She wasn't even sure if he was really angry or not, she just assumed he was.
Taking hold of his wrist, Callista returned the gesture, albeit less intense, and started to drag the mysterious man to the spot she originally wanted to go too. Although unsure of what she was trying to do, Anastacius decided to follow her anyways.
When they finally arrived at the center, Callista tugged on their connected hold, causing Anastacius to slightly bump into her from the sudden pull.
Shocked and confused, he silently anticipated her next move, watching as she brought up her index finger to form a one, bringing it close to her lips.
"One song..." She began with a bright smile, "Won't you give me one song for tonight?"
'Song?' Anastacius raised a brow, unsure of what she meant. Did she perhaps want him to create a song for her? It's not that he minded, he just wasn't sure how it would turn out in the end. But he also had a feeling that that wasn't what she meant.
Confused, Anastacius continued to observe her a little further, trying to understand her meaning until he finally caught her staring at dancing citizens. She didn't want him to create a song for her, she wanted him to dance with her.
With a confident smile, Anastacius took hold of her left waist, left hand slightly intertwined with her right as he started to move to the beat of the music.
The song they were currently dancing too was fairly common in Obelia, you could even say that it was a classic.
So it was no wonder that the two were able to keep up with the others. In fact, they almost moved seamlessly.
Because of her malnourishment, Callista couldn't dance with as much energy as everyone else, she was weaker than the others, and that was clearly shown with the way she danced. But even then, Anastacius still noticed how well she danced, like her weakness wasn't affecting her in the slightest.
Anastacius watched with a contented smile as Callista happily danced with him. She looked like she was having the time of her life, and that thought greatly pleased him...for reasons still unknown to him.
