Isabella

Oh the small town of Blackburn. I have memories from my childhood, such a long time ago. My family was amongst those who founded this land, before we were exiled. It's safe for us to be back now, all those who wanted to kill us are long gone.
Somethings I enjoy now are plants and nature. Something about the smell of soil and plants really soothes me. At the moment I was on my knees hanging over plants. I was checking to make sure they were hydrated and flourishing. I was in the process of watering the plants in the back when Sage came.
Sage is my older brother, we are all each other had really. We have never been separated our whole lives, even when our younger siblings left us.
My brother was very handsome, one of the most handsome men in the town. Many of the townie women pine after him. Sage even dated quite a few.
He had grey eyes like our father and his normal low cut. We were a black family and beautiful family. Sage was tall and he always wore all black. His aura was mysterious and he always was calm and composed. He never let off too much, everything was left up to assumptions with him. Sage was always stuck in his head thinking.
"Iz, come look at the news." He interrupted, with a startled look on his face. I knew it was bad so I hopped up immediately and followed him inside. He would never interrupt me in the garden.
Our house was huge, Victorian styled. There was a large grand staircase as soon as you come in the front door. There were banisters on the side of the stairs. We had expensive paintings and furniture on the inside. This was our family home from when we lived here years ago. Sage found it and refurbished it.
Sage led me into the den where the tv was. The device was already on, displaying the local news channel. The reporter was Diana Hall, some would call her the most popular woman in town. But she's a pain in the ass to me. A prissy, nosy news reporter with a bad attitude.
Besides all that, she was reporting of an animal attack. Diana stood outside of Blackburn cemetery dressed in her cream colored skirt suit. Her blonde hair was brushed into an updo. She looked perfect as she reported a seemingly dark story.
"Authorities say the teen couple was attacked by a vicious animals. The injuries were so severe the couple bled out before being found by Ranger Jones this morning."
Sage muted the television, staring at the ground. He was deep in thought. "Someone's here." He said.
"Because they were bled out overnight?" I asked, thinking he was mildly exaggerating.
"Isabella we can't be careless." He snapped, showing his stress a little more. "Even if you don't think it's serious, we still need to go check." Sage continued.
I sighed, rolling my eyes. "We'll go to the park when the sun goes down." I offered.
Sage looked unsatisfied, "let's go now." He demanded, walking towards the foyer. He grabbed the keys off the side table and swung the door open. His sneakers made a heavy thud against the rugged wooden floor.
I followed behind him without another word, but he knew I was highly annoyed with him bossing me around. He did not care, or at least it didn't bother him. We drove in Sage's Mercedes truck, riding silently listening to the car work.
I wasn't taking this situation serious because no one would even come to this town. We came here because it was a good place to live. No bad things have happened here for a long time. Blackburn was safe.
"You really think our siblings wouldn't come find us?" Sage asked, breaking the silence. He was obviously thinking a lot on the car ride.
"They left. Why would they?" I asked him, shutting him up. He always had hope Cleo and Theo would come home. I didn't think about them. They were bad and we were good.
Sage's silence was for me, but in a way so Isat with my thoughts. He drove the rest of the way stuck in his own head. Probably coming up with more scenarios.
We arrived to the park ranger station. Jones truck was parked outside, slightly warm meaning he had just came from somewhere.
The park was green, full of nature. The only thing bad that happened here was the teens coming here to drink, party or whatever things are illegal. The vibe used to be friendly and safe. Now it screams murder.
There were police cars all over the lot and cops walking in and out of the main building taking notes. I heard things like animal or creatures from their conversations. Things were definitely bad.
"Hey how can I help y'all?" Jones asked, walking from the station. He was dressed in his uniform, khaki pants and button down shirt. Jones was equipped with his belt and all its tools. He was a black man, with a low clean haircut and simple brown eyes like everyone else. He smiled at us in a friendly way. He looked a little stressed.
"We just wanted to know about the animal attack that happened last night? What kind of animal was it?" Sage asked, getting right to the point.
Jones blinked, "you know I can't tell you that." He chuckled awkwardly. Jones didn't know my brother as well as he thought. Sage was going to get his answer from him whether he wanted to or not.
Sage leaned down, staring into his eyes. He was going to compel him. Jones was in a trance unable to speak unless Sage told him to. "What kind of animal was it?"
Jones was hypnotized as he stared back at my brother. "I don't know. I don't even think it was an animal. Seemed like.... a person." He chanted, in a daze. "There were hand marks and bruises from being restrained." Jones continued.
Sage nodded before backing away from the ranger. "Go back inside, and forget we came here." Sage ordered.
Jones went back to normal. He smiled cheerfully at us before heading back inside of the station. I watched him walk away realizing Sage was right, again.
"Okay you were right." I regretted every word of it. Not only was I wrong but we had a vampire problem. We hadn't had to deal with any in a while and it sucked having to go through it again.
"Let's look around, maybe we can get a scent." He said before walking towards one of the trails leading through the park. I followed behind him.
