You only joined S.H.I.E.L.D. about a month ago. May is your SO, and everyone knows how good of a trainer she is, so you're ready to go out into the field very quickly. You still haven't mentioned to the team that you have anxiety, but something tells you that Jemma and Daisy know. Whenever you get nervous or anxious about anything, the way they look at you just gives you the impression that they notice how anxious you are but that you're trying your best to conceal it. You do a pretty good job at hiding it — at least you think you do — but apparently not enough for them.
It's a regular Friday morning, and everyone is just hanging out at the base. It starts snowing; a few light flurries into what becomes a full-on snowstorm. Checking the weather, you see ten to twelve inches are forecasted, causing a small lump to form in the back of your throat. What if something bad happens? you think. No, no. It's just a simple, little snowstorm. Nothing to worry about, right? Right. Yeah, totally. It's all fine. It's all gonna be fine. It's all gonna be one hundred percent fine.
It also doesn't help that you just found out last night that your grandma is in the hospital for a broken leg after falling down the stairs. She's really old and weak, and her immune system and bones are not at all as strong as they used to be. She could have internal bleeding or some other internal injuries sustained, for all you know. It isn't looking too good. They're still running a bunch of tests, and you're anxiously waiting for any updates from your mom. There are also even more things that are going haywire in your life.
You realize you were just zoned out and immediately knock yourself out of it, joining back on the conversation as quickly as your brain can process it. Jemma is sitting directly across from you and she's looking at you in concern. She furrows her eyebrow and tilts her head as if to ask, "Are you okay?" You just subtly nod and smile, turning your attention back to the conversation, praying that she believes you. You try your best to ignore her continuing to look at you out of the corner of her eye, obviously very worried at how anxious you seem. You're fidgeting with your rings and swinging your left foot back and forth while it's sitting on the coffee table in front of you. You're also bouncing your right leg on the floor, and can't help but lean forward to be able to bounce your leg more steadily and harder. Daisy notices as well, glancing back and forth between you and Jemma. The two of them make eye contact and then both glance between you and each other. You know they know, and you try to stop looking anxious, but after a few seconds just give up, now looking even more anxious than before.
Jemma interrupts the conversation, "Hey, I just remembered something I have to do in the lab. Would anyone like to join me?"
"I'll come!" Daisy chimes in, "Why don't you join us, Y/N?"
Great.
"U-uh, s-sure," you say, shakily, as you stand up. Coulson looks at Mack and they both make eye contact with the rest of the team. They all know something's up, but you try to ignore that thought, shoving it away into the back of your mind in a little locked box as you put on a fake smile for Jemma and Daisy. You guys walk into the lab, and Jemma drops the bomb right away, without a moment's hesitation.
"Y/N, I think you know why we're here."
You glance off into the distance, staring at the corner of the room, getting more and more anxious with every passing moment.
"Hey, hey, it's okay, Y/N. Don't worry, my love. Just breathe," Daisy says, taking your trembling hands in hers as you start to tear up with fear and embarrassment, hyperventilating.
Jemma comes next to you, putting her hands on your shoulders.
"What is it? What's the matter, sweetie?" she asks you.
"Nothing, nothing! I'm fine, it's okay!"
"Y/N, if you were fine, you wouldn't be shaking."
"Or crying," Daisy chimes in.
"Or hyperventilating," Jemma adds.
"No, no, I'm okay!" you say, clearly having a panic attack as you try to blink away the tears that are about to roll down your face, pulling away from Jemma and Daisy.
"It's alright, Y/N!" Jemma says.
"No, it's not! It's not!" you say, running towards the door. Daisy's too fast — she's already by your side, quaking the door shut so you can't get out.
"Heyy, heyyy, it's okay," she softly says to you, pulling you into a hug.
