After the first week of her 6th year, Davina had concluded that something was very off.
Okay, maybe she was being a bit dramatic, but as she laid on her bed staring up at the ceiling, (actively avoiding thinking about the mountain of homework sitting in front of her) she found herself overthinking her entire week.
There was nothing wrong per say, it's just that before this year, she was usually unable to escape her friends for any alone time at all, yet here she lay now, with nothing to occupy herself with other than homework.
First, she wondered where Lily was, if homework was involved usually Lily was too, but she had then remembered that she left a note on the door saying that she was going to the library with James of all people to revise charms, as he was 'having some trouble with his slowing charms that are pretty essential for their upcoming practical'.
That was the first reason why Davina had concluded that something was up. Never in a million years would she have thought that Lily would fall for something like that, but then again it wasn't all that surprising. They all knew Lily was harbouring feelings for James, Davina was just surprised that she was actually starting to act on those feelings.
Marlene was often one to count on when everyone else was busy doing something or other, but Davina noticed that she'd been disappearing the past few days. She excused herself by announcing that she was off to fit in some extra quidditch drills for their upcoming match against Slytherin, but Marlene was always quite naturally talented at the sport and didn't necessarily need extra training.
Mary seemed thoroughly occupied with her new infatuation for Fabian Prewett. This was also quite strange in Davina's opinion, Mary wasn't usually one to settle on someone so quickly. She was happy for Mary though, Fabian too she supposed, he'd been flirting with her for almost as long as James had been with Lily.
Remus and Sirius were probably the strangest of all recently. She might chalk it up to her just imagining things, but she was sure she was starting to pick up on something. She often felt like a bit of an intruder when she was with the two of them, so she left them to it.
Peter was ever the chatterbox, but he spoke about things that could put Davina to sleep in seconds, so she often let him play chess or chat to anyone else willing to give him the time of day.
After all this reflecting she thought that maybe she was the one that was acting out of sorts.
Regulus was on her mind a lot more than she would like to admit. Especially their moment in the broom closet.
It's not like she could fancy Regulus, he was Sirius' brother. And Sirius was basically her second brother at this point (She ignored the little voice in her head that told her that she had always thought Regulus was nice to look at and that she was kidding absolutely no one). It just wouldn't work.
There were a lot of issues with possibly fancying Regulus. For one, Davina was a blood traitor through and through. That didn't pose much of a problem with Regulus himself as far as she could tell, but his family certainly wouldn't be happy with her families affiliation with muggles. Or their rejection of pureblood supremacy ideology. This issue would only put them both in danger. Though Davina supposed they were both living in danger already.
The root of Davina's worries boiled down to one particular piece of news that James brought her attention to at breakfast when the owls delivered the mail.
James received a letter from the family owl (Ethel was her name. James suggested it and Mum thought it was better than Davina's suggestion, Scowl the owl. Davina called her Scowl anyway, she had a perpetual unimpressed look on her face, the name was just far too fitting).
