"Come on Dee, the sooner we get there the sooner it'll be over with."

Lily's attempts at coaxing Davina out of their dorm bathroom were proving to be futile. She was currently sitting on the toilet seat and had been applying mascara for the last five minutes using a handy little mirror that she had found in the bottom of her trunk.

"I'm sure they won't mind if we're fashionably late Lil's, it starts in ten minutes, so we'll leave in twenty." She swapped the mascara out for some lipgloss.

"You have five more minutes Davina, then I'm leaving with you or without!" She listened as Lily walked away from the door.

Davina looked at herself in the little mirror and tried her best to conjure some optimism. The first slug club dinner had taken place last week, and it was as bad as she had expected it to be. She had to sit through boasting from the likes of Joseph Avery and Barty Crouch for hours.

Not to mention the fact that Davina, Lily and Gwenog — a star quidditch player from Hufflepuff — were the only girls in attendance, making them targets for some of the worst flirting she had ever endured. She opted for less formal wear tonight, to hopefully stave off Avery's unbearable suggestive smirks. She shivered and grimaced at her reflection just thinking about it.

"What's with the face? I don't think you look all that bad myself." Davina jumped and almost dropped the mirror at the sight of Sirius' face looking back at her through it.

"Sirius?!" She looked behind her half expecting him to be standing there, but she was only faced with the bathroom wall. She looked back to the mirror to see Sirius laughing. "What kind of mirror is this? How can you see me?"

Sirius grinned. "One of the only useful artefacts that I nicked from my lovely home. It's a two way mirror, you can communicate with people through it."

"Wow." She marvelled at how advanced it was. "How did it get into my trunk?" She started flipping the mirror to examine it.

"I'm not sure, I gave one of the mirrors to James back in second year so he must've misplaced it. Very irresponsible if you ask me, must remember not to lend the bugger anything again. Will you stop tossing it? I know it's brilliant but you're making me dizzy." She flipped the mirror back to face Sirius again.

"I could do with one of these, maybe I'll keep it for myself, unless you have any more lying around." She grinned at him.

"Of course not Dee, it's a Black family exclusive. And, it's mine and James' way of communicating when we're separated. Like right now, he's in detention and I thought I'd take my chances. Unfortunately I was met with you instead." He sighed.

"I'm much better company than James, but I must say I'd rather not be in possession of an item that gives you the opportunity to annoy me at all hours of the day. I'll give it back to him."

"Thank you dearest. What are you all dressed up for anyway?" Sirius asked. He looked like he was lying with his back on the floor, she could see his hair fanned out over the red carpet that covered the Gryffindor dorms.

"I was aiming for dressing down a bit this week actually." She looked down at her floral top and flared jeans. "I've got another slug club dinner tonight."

"Oh, you poor thing." He said, without a hint of sympathy

"Davina! Let's go!" Lily banged on the door.

"Okay!" Davina rolled her eyes and looked back to Sirius. "This is goodbye, here's to hoping I make it through the night."

"Farewell soldier. Hope the food is good at least." He gave her a wink and disappeared leaving Davina to stare at her own reflection.
