April froze at the words, her eyes growing wider by the second.
"Really? She wants us to name them?" Nathan asked, surprised, but not shocked in the slightest.
April's eyes had gotten three sizes wider and she felt like a huge vacuum cleaner had been used to suck out whatever calm was left in her. She couldn't breathe right.
Had Paige just said baby?
"I know, right? It's a girl by the way." She chuckled. "I already suggested a name but since when did my mom listen to me?"
"Hannah's pregnant?!" Came the exact words April wanted to scream, but they weren't from her, they were from Javier.
"Yeah, dude," Paige replied. "Try to keep up."
"You didn't know?" Malia asked.
He shook his head. "Not a clue."
"Well, you were late to the party and you must've missed the announcement," Amanda clarified, finally speaking up.
April quickly blinked to regain feeling in her frozen face. How could she have missed such an announcement? Her mind must've been too occupied that night to listen.
Hannah. Was. Pregnant!
No wonder she'd been rocking the robe everywhere. She wanted to scream, both of excitement and surprise. Her Dad had a new kid on the way. She couldn't begin to imagine what was in store for them, whoever they'd be.
"Seems you didn't know either," Nathan stated, motioning towards her.
She managed a pathetic shrug and rolled her eyes. "Of course I did, I'm just excited all over again."
"I know, right? I finally get to order someone around! I'll be like-"
"She'll be a baby throughout your adolescence, Paige. By the time she's old enough to take orders, you'll already be an adult with a brain and a job," Hannah cut her short, joining their arrangement with a blue basket, which she set on her lap.
"Congrats, Ms. O'Brien," Javier said, a big smile on his face. April could relate. "I only just heard."
"Aw, it's okay. And thank you. I'm pretty excited." She opened the basket and pulled out a set of cards, which she passed round with a set of markers for them to use.
April felt jellybeans in her stomach at the thought of getting to name a person. A complete person, with arms and legs and a soul inside of them. Back when she believed in cheesy things like true love and starting a family, there had been one name she'd wanted to give the first daughter she'd share with Javier.
Bet he couldn't remember that.
The child now, she wasn't sure would ever happen with anyone, so she could easily name her own baby sister Autumn, after her favorite season. The season of hope, where every leaf became a flower, and where all that we lose in flowers, we get back in form of fruits. The season that was most overlooked but to her was the most beautiful, calm season. Plus, you can wear whatever you want in autumn.
