I make eye contact with my mom as she makes her way over to me, "Hey mom, how are you?" I ask when she stands next to me. "I've been good, definitely enjoying having my two babies back at home." I smile at her, "Me too, I didn't realize how much I missed you and dad until I saw you."
She smiles before a slightly worried expression is etched on her face, "Is Harry alright? He seems a bit under the weather." "Yeah, he's okay, somethings bothering his allergies but we're not sure what it is." "Oh, poor guy. I've got some Benadryl in the bathroom" I shake my head, "Yeah I saw, but it doesn't work for him."
She thinks for a moment "Oh, give me a moment I might have some claritin in the medicine cabinet" she says quickly before making her way to the kitchen. Harry comes back and makes his way to me, "You sure you're gonna be okay baby?" he shrugs, "Maybe" he says. My dad makes his way over to the both of us, "Are you having a nice time Harry?" My dad asks, Harry smiles at him, "Yes, i'm having a fantastic time sir. Your wife is a great cook" he says kindly.
I wrap my arm around his back, My dad smiles at him, "That she is, sadly my daughter got my genes and can't cook to save her life." my dad teases. "Hey! I can make toast" Harry and my dad laugh. "Uhm, I don't think that's true. The first time you tried making me breakfast you almost burnt my house down." Harry says which makes my dad laugh even harder.
My brother and Clarissa make their way towards us once they hear us laughing, "What are we talking about over here?" Chris asks. My dad manages to stop laughing and answers him, "Oh we're just talking about how bad of a cook this one is." he says, pointing at me, making my brother laugh, "Oh, well let me tell you this," my brother starts, "I remember this one time she slept over my house and tried to make spaghetti. She totally failed, she cooked the pasta way too much and it was just a mushy mess."
That makes everybody laugh. I feel Harry tense up, I look up at him and notice his nostrils flaring. He brings his hand up to rub at his nose, trying to relieve the itch. When that doesn't seem to work he brings his elbow up and turns slightly away before sneezing a harsh triple, "Eh-TSCHEW! Huh-IISHEOO! Hrr-SCHHMGxT!" A round of blessings come from my dad, Chris, and Clarissa. Harry slightly blushes and thanks them.
Wanting to get the attention off of Harry, I speak up, "Alice, do you want to put the star on top?" She looks at me and nods eagerly. "Yes please!!" At that moment my mom comes back with a bottle of claritin in her hands. "Oh, honey just in time. Alice is gonna put the star on top" My dad says when he sees her. "Oh goodie" she hands me the bottle of Claritin, "Thank you" I say.
She only nods with a smile on her face and then makes her way to my dad. With Harry being the tallest, he places Alice on his shoulders and walks to the tree. He holds her tightly as she reaches to place it on top, I notice Harry's face as he wiggles his nose around. When she's done he quickly walks away from the tree and sets her down on the floor.
I hear his hitching breaths when he stands next to me. He has that desperate pre-sneeze expression on his face, He quickly turns away and starts sneezing, "IT-SCHIEH! HAR-CHIEW! HRR-URSCHEW!" Everyone looks at Harry with a worried expression as he continues to sneeze, "HAH-tchew! HUP-eh-TSCHEW!" I look at him when he finishes, "Bless you" I say.
I can tell he's a bit embarrassed as my dad speaks up, "You alright there son? Sounds like you've got a cold" He sniffles lightly, "I'm alright sir, not a cold, just allergies" My dad nods, "Oh, is it something in the house?" I'm about to answer for him but he quickly interrupts me, "I think it's just a bit of dust"
My mother quickly changes the subject, noticing it was making Harry a bit embarrassed. I drag Harry to the kitchen, he rubs at his nose and eyes. I pass him the tissue box and he pulls a few out and blows his nose. I grab a water bottle from the fridge and pass it to him. "So my mom found some claritin and I don't care what you say, you are taking it" He just nods and quickly grabs a tissue to sneeze into, "Hmph-SXCHEW! Aeh-tsch!" "Bless you" I say as I take the correct amount of pills out.
"Here, hopefully this'll help" I say as I pass him the pills. He swallows the pills and puts his face in his hands, rubbing at his achy sinuses. I walk to him and hug him from behind. "I'm sorry you don't feel good baby" I say sympathetically. "It's okay, I'm sorry i ruined the day" I pull away and make him face me, "Bubs, you didn't ruin the day at all." I tell him honestly.
I pull him into a hug, he hugs me back tightly. "I don't deserve you" he says quietly, hiding his face in my neck. "Yes you do'' I say softly as I rub his back. I feel him rub his nose on my shoulder, clearly not wanting to pull away. Eventually he gives up and pulls away to grab some tissues, "HUH-SCHEW! Ah-ITSCHOO!" he gives a lengthy blow and then throws them away, "Bless you" I say softly.
I place a kiss on his cheek before resting my forehead on his. I scratch his head in the way he loves and he gives a quiet congested sigh. I pull away and look at the bottle of claritin, "It says it'll take about an hour to fully kick in" I say sympathetically. He just shrugs his shoulders, "It's okay, at least I won't be sneezing the whole night."
He knuckles his nose before standing up, he hugs me one last time before we both make our way back to the living room. Everyone looks at us as we enter the room. My mom speaks up first, "Ah just in time we're gonna light up the tree!" she says excitedly.
