hi! here's the first part. enjoy! :)

It had been a few hours since Spooner hit Ava with the news she never wanted to hear. The legends had left Ava in her quarters concerned. Of course they wanted to give her some space but they all knew how much she loved Sara, after all she was the first person Ava had ever loved.

"Go check up on her" Nate pushed Behrad towards the door. Behrad backed away and quickly shook his head. "Noooo way, she yelled at Zari earlier. She wants to be left alone." Behrad replied remembering Zari coming out of the room with tears in her eyes, not because she had been yelled at but because seeing her friend like that broke her heart.

"Do we really think it's a good idea for him to be the one to check up on her. He's a walking contact high." Spooner spoke up standing behind both. She had a point, after hearing the news Behrad had immediately left the room to get high and the smell of pot ran through the hallways of the waverider. They were sure Ava knew they were all standing there, or at least Behrad, because of the smell that was so potent.

"I think we should just give her more time." John said. Nate sighed and nodded his head. They all agreed and began walking away, Nate still by the door sighed and quickly walked into the room and before the other legends could stop him the doors closed behind him. The other legends knowing what was in store for Nate didn't want to risk making Ava feel worse so they left him trusting he would comfort her.

"Hey, Ava" Nate said slowly walking up to her. "Please, Nate, I just wanna be alone right now" she said in a low shaky voice. She was laying on Sara's side of the bed hugging her pillow facing away from Nate. He could hear her soft cries as he got closer to the bed. He laid next to Ava looking up at the ceiling, Ava made no attempt to move and just let him be. They stayed silent for a while before Nate finally spoke up.

"You know, the very first time I met Sara she quite literally knocked me off my feet. It really hurt." Nate smiled at the ceiling remembering the moment. Ava gave a small smile Nate couldn't see. She remembered Sara telling her the story, the image of Nate falling to the ground always made her laugh. She remembered laughing with Sara, although the story wasn't the funniest thing in the world, they were just laughing simply because they were happy.

"You know, she told me she was gonna propose, oh gosh she was so fucking excited. I have never seen her eyes light up more than when she was talking about you. I also don't think I've ever heard Sara talk that much, I would have told her to shut up but I was scared she was gonna skin me alive in my sleep." He rolled his eyes in a joking manner. "Ava Sharpe this Ava Sharpe that, ughhh" He joked again mocking Sara's voice. This time he earned a small chuckle from Ava. Nate smiled and then gave a small sigh. Although the thought of her not being able to marry Sara anymore completely broke her, her heart fluttered hearing what Nate had said.

"I know how hard it is to lose someone you love... I know our situations aren't the same and I'll never fully understand your pain, but you are my family and I am going to be here for you." Nate said with some tears in his eyes. Although Ava made no effort to reply she appreciated his words.

Nate had left her room when he realized she had fallen asleep. He found the rest of the legends in the lab, they were supposed to be watching a movie but no one was paying attention. "She didn't kick you out," spoke Spooner. "She's asleep now," he stated and took a seat next to Behrad who, unshockingly, still smelled a lot like pot.

They all sat in silence, they hadn't shared much to each other once they had found out Sara had died. Their captain, the same captain who had gone through so much and survived so much. No one could believe it, their hearts ached.

Zari was walking through the hallway on her way to see Ava after contemplating whether or not she should check up on her. When she arrived at the door she could hear her sobs and gasps for air. The door opened and she walked in seeing Ava sitting on the edge of the bed still hugging Sara's pillow. Zari felt her heart sink to her stomach and she quickly rushed over to give her a hug. Ava accepted the hug and wrapped her arms around Zari. Ava sobbed onto her designer jacket, not that she cared about it anyways her friend was more important, trying to catch her breath. "She's really gone, Z.. M-my Sara is g-gone." She said in between sobs and all Zari could do was softly rub her back. Zari sat holding Ava for a few minutes as her cries faded and soon she was crying silently.

"Um.. I brought some pizza. Gideon mentioned that Ava hasn't eaten anything all day." Behrad interrupted. He stood with a plate with two slices of just regular pepperoni pizza in one hand and a can of soda and bottle of water in the other. Zari looked up with a few tears falling which she quickly wiped away. Ava separated from the hug and sat with her head down, the thought of eating something right now made her feel sick.

Behrad quickly set the plate and the drinks on the nightstand, gave Ava a sympathetic smile that she didn't see and then walked out of the room. Zari stood up and grabbed the plate. "Aves you have to eat something," she said with concern in her eyes. She held out the plate for her but Ava wouldn't take it. Zari gave a sigh, she knew Ava wasn't gonna take the plate so she placed the plate back on the nightstand and grabbed the bottle of water. "At least drink some water." she then said as she twisted the cap off and extended her arm to give it to her, Ava accepted it and she was drinking some in small sips. It gave her a chance to take a breath. A few seconds later a new wave of tears came, making her almost choke on the water.

Zari proceeded to rub her back not knowing what to say to her friend to make her feel a bit better. There was nothing she could say that could take away her pain at this moment.

"Aves, you should get some sleep," Zari said softly. Even though they were in the temporal zone, she knew it had to be way past midnight because she could feel her body slowly shutting down, but she couldn't sleep. There was no way she was about to leave the blonde like this, this was her first actual friend and she wasn't going to leave her.

"I-i can't. I close my eyes and see.... her," Ava said as she shut her eyes tightly to try and get the mental picture of Sara alone, hurt, and in pain out of her mind.

Zari got up and held out a hand for her friend. "Okay, then let's get you changed into some comfortable clothes and you can just lay down. Ill stay with you." Ava was gonna oppose, but she knew Zari wouldn't have taken no for an answer and so she took her hand and stood up to walk over to the closet.

The closet was unsurprisingly neat and Zari began going through Ava's pajama sets that she so nicely had on the hangers. As the brunette was looking through the clothes Ava set her eyes on one of Sara's sweaters. Zari noticed and stopped dead in her tracks as Ava reached for it. She got it off the hanger, dropping it to the ground, Zari didn't say anything and just watched her. It wasn't a shock what happened next. With tears forming in her eyes she brought the grey sweater up to her chest and buried her face into it. It smelled so much like Sara, her Sara and that's when she let out the sob that was forming at her throat.
